Mars Bar Adelaide Shut Down and Replaced with Oz Night Club

Mars Bar owner Andrew Hobbs says patronage has dropped about 20 per cent over the past few years as customers drift away to other venues. A frustrated Mr Hobbs, who has cut down opening the Gouger street club from four nights a week to two, says he is also fed up with complaints about cover charges and drink prices. If you don’t come in because we charge a door charge I’m sorry, but a lot of venues have closed in Adelaide and people always say Mars is an institution and it will always be here – well who knows, if you don’t support it, you may not have it much longer.

Unfortunately that was to be the outcome as Mars Bar announced on their FaceBook page that it’s the end of an era. It’s being closed and has been taken over by a new owner. I was determined to be there for the final night and quickly organised some friends to come along with me to enjoy the closing of the curtain together.
