    White temple Chiang Rai

The travel section of out sunday tabloid ran a full page on the White Temple, near Chiang Rai.

"The White temple is a genuine jaw dropper"

I have been trying to find a link to the article unsuccessfully.

But it is the first time I have heard of it and even the regulars that used to post long trip reports I am sure never mentioned it.
For those who live in Chiang Rai, Perhaps you can give some detail. Is it just a newspaper beat up or is it really good. What are the travel downsides?.

wombat, when people say that can't find things on the web, it really makes me wonder how they search. You told us that "The White temple is a genuine jaw dropper", did you try a Google search ? (hint: click that link)

I went to the temple on my last visit to Chiang Mai. We stopped there on a trip to the golden triangle. I thought it was very impressive and if you are in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai I recommend a visit. Aslo, found this article, not sure if it is the one you are looking for or not.

    To Sen Yai

I was out to lunch at a friends place and used his computer, when he had neighbors call in.

The spare time I had was taken up trying to find a link to include in the post.

    To Pyro

that is exactly the article I was referring to. Well done to get the link.

It is a great read and as we discussed at lunch not mentioned in the guides we have.

Probably too boring for 99% of posters/readers here.

Nail on the head! That's the Lonelywombat's middle name :blackeye: :blackeye:

Our friend Bob ( PM him @ << ucp.php?i=pm&mode=compose&u=77 >> ) has also been to the white temple and has virtual orgasms while attempting to persuade us to go there next time we're up in the north country. Probably will.
Anyway, contact him ... and get that special feeling in your loins.
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

My elderly friend who cannot stand the hot weather has been told the climate around Chiang Mai is very cool and pleasant, November and early December The White temple was not on his original list of things to consider. After lunch we talked about hiring a limo and tour guide to do a round trip of places he has never seen before. Sadly it depends on his recovery from a planned operation.

As to whether I go depends on him. I am more a Pattaya, Phuket person.

Well, hardly (presuming I'm allowed to use that adverb), Khun Smiles. You're turning into quite the curmudgeon these days; besides, somebody your age rarely feels anything in their loins other than a bit of a wedgie from worn out underwear!

Wat Rawng Koon (which I usually just call the wedding cake temple) is rather unique and, in my view, certainly worth a visit should you ever be in the Chiangrai area (the temple is about 3-4 kilometers south of Chiangrai). The artist/architect who's been building the various temples keeps on adding buildings to the site as you can see in the following two photos I took in 2005 and 2006:
