    Asian Moon Rising

A few months ago I posted a rather glowing review of the very gay-friendy The Asian Moon Cafe in Jomtien Complex. I became a rather regular customer there and found the buffet, service and price to be very good.

To my disappointment, in September I noticed a decrease in the freshness & quality of the food (especially breakfast) and while it was "not bad", it had definitely slipped a notch.

Turns out the Owner & day-to-day Manager (Darren) was away in England for three weeks and when the cat's away...

Darren's back now and I'm pleased to say so is the "old" Asian Moon. I've had breakfast & dinner there several times this week and have been impressed with the freshness, food quality & cleanliness.

All businesses have bad days, it's nice to see one turn it around!

Yes, the mice did play when the cats were away (I think Trevor and Noom were/are also away). However, I'm not sure all is back to normal yet. To me, it's some of the little things that make Asian Moon appealing. Not only the food and service, but also the decor/ambiance and cleanliness. I was there for dinner last night and I noticed they did not have the usual terrycloth washcloths for hand towels in the loo -- they had paper dinner napkins, which disintegrate upon contact with water. I hope that is not a permanent change.

One irritation I have with the operation at Asian Moon: I am a regular customer. I eat there about once per week. I recently heard from another frequent patron (who happens to be friends with the owners) that Asian Moon have some sort of discount card for regulars, but I have never been offered one. Perhaps it's more of an "insider's card" for special friends of the elite owners? Regardless, it kind of ticks me off that I've never been offered a card as often as I eat there. Especially after they raised the prices.

Maybe not publicly, but they are flirtatitious, so maybe a private astronomy show could be arranged?

Well, I know the wait staff recognize and remember me. Maybe it's because the management team rotates (one night Darren, one night Trevor, one night Darren's wife, one night Noom) that *they* don't recognize me as a repeat customer? I guess I shouldn't expect Thai staff to suggest to their boss that I'm eligible for a frequent customer card? <shrug>

Had I not known they had such a program, I would have been "fat, dumb and happy" as they say. But now I'm just fat. And slightly annoyed.

When I received my card, Darren explained that he would be raising the prices for the high season, but he didn't want to lose his regular customers that reside here in Pattaya and frequent the place during the low season. So, with the card, the "regular" continues to get the low season price.

    Great service

Stopped into the Asian Moon, first time, late Tuesday night , almost 11, Darren (I'm assuming) was outside, he said would you like to eat, I said yes, he said they just pulled all the food off the line. He said come in, he called the entire kitchen staff, 4 or 5 of them, they brought out all the food and set up the whole line again in less than a minute. All great food including the roast duck.

So I don't make a social/economic faux pas, may I ask how you came to obtain the card from Darren? Did you know him prior to his opening Asian Moon? Did he offer it to you unsolicited (by you)? Did the wait staff recommend you? Did you inquire as to the availability of such a card?

As someone who supported Asian Moon during the low season, and continues to do so at the higher price, I don't want to step on any toes or cause any embarassment, but would like to have the card.

I've always thought a Frequent Fucker Scheme should be offered by any entrepreneurial go-go bar. There's an brothel service in Melbourne that offers every tenth boy free to its regular customers (Global Escorts, if you must know)
