    LOS Health Insurance

I know this topic has surfaced many times over the years but I would likle some fresh information if possible.

I'm turning the big "60" at the end of this year and considering an early retirement. Can anyone recommend a good health insurance package in Thailand. Most appreciated would be information from expats who have already secured polices and straight answers regarding the cost, as well as any pitfalls to avoid.

    Thanks ahead of time.

    Re: LOS Health Insurance

I just purchased a policy from LMG. It's only for in-patient services. There is a 40,000 baht annual deductible, a 5 mil limit per incident/illness, and a 20mil lifetime limit.

This required a full physical, and there were a number of important exclusions, some based on my age and some related to me personally.

I chose LMG over BUPA because BUPA does not offer a policy with an annual deductible and thus has a higher annual premium.

DODGER, Shouldn't you also try to get some cover for future weddings as well as health?

    Joking.

    Re: LOS Health Insurance

    Bottom line...Be prepared to "self-insure" yourself !
if you choose to live in Thailand for the long haul...

Premiums will increase and limits of coverage decline as you grow older...
especially at ages 70+ and 80+
    Good luck...

My take on all of this ...
Insurance is a moving iceberg...a minefield of sort...
get what you can, while you can...the best you can afford...

There is NO insurer who is going to cover you and your ailments
at Cheap Charlie rates when you grow older.

The renewable issue is really a non-starter...
as the costs to be renewed at older ages will truly bust your budget.

There are those who wait...and wait...roll the dice year after year...
until it's too late and pay BIG $$$ for care...
I believe in having an insurer share in the costs..vs my paying 100% of costs.

There is NO FREE LUNCH when it comes to healthcare and insurance.

    Re: LOS Health Insurance

Liberty Mutual in Thailand offers health insurance too...
you may wish to compare their policy offerings, rates & renewables...

LMG is a Thai affiliate of Liberty Mutual in USA...

I have recommended LMG to several expats...
they are comprehensive in the application..as they should be...
and their policies are affordable to many.

Over on ajarn.com (a teachers website most popular & used by many who wish to teach in Thailand)...
there is a trusted insurance broker... who has freely given many advice about health insurance in Thailand...
Tony Dabbs - in Bangkok. He has access to many health policies in Thailand....and can assist with LMG - Liberty Mutual...as well.

    Talk to Peter at...

    Nong Prue,
    Banglamung,
    Chonburi 20260

    Fax: 038 374 251

They have many plans. Take a look at the ACS/Allianz plans which are fully underwritten by Allianz as they are, by far, the best value.
