St. Petersburg: The Wonders of Russia’s Old Capital – and it’s More Gay Friendly!

As with my first visit to Moscow, my first sight of Leningrad, as St. Petersburg was then called, came near the end of the Cold War. This time it was a 36-hour December stopover on my way to spend New Year with friends in Bangkok. My Soviet contacts had put me up in another huge, rambling hotel, this time on the outskirts with bitterly cold winds blowing in from the Bay of Finland.
