Northern region prepares for cool winter
(BangkokPost.com) – A relief centre has been set up to help residents in the northern province of Chiang Rai who are suffering from the cold. In the past week, the temperature has been dropping continuously, causing fear that winter this year will be particularly severe.
The local temperature was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius with temperatures as low as 8 degrees on higher ground.
Areas expected to be hardest hit by the cold are Mae Fah Luang, Mae Sai, Mae Chan and Mae Saruay districts.
The relief centre has already set aside a budget of 300,000 baht to help those in need. A further 50 milllion baht will be requested from the government for emergency relief supplies.
