Massive boost in US tourists forcast

    "US tourist rebound

The American Society of Travel Agents estimates that one million Americans will vacation in Thailand this year. Pitsanu Kongkunpai, president of the associationтАЩs local chapter, forecast that American tourists would spend Bt85 billion here this year. The Kingdom was ranked as the 21st most popular foreign destination for Americans before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, but since 2004 Thailand has failed to enter the top 25.

Last year, 5.2 million Americans visited Asia but only 2 per cent (104,000) of them visited in Thailand. Japan, China and Hong Kong were the top destinations. The average American tourist spends Bt10,880 per day in Thailand and the average trip is 7.6 days, according to the association."

    Suchat Sritama, The Nation" http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2006/02 ... 000795.php

An increase from 104,000 to 1 million seems extraordinarily unlikely unless there is some particular reason that is not stated.

Perhaps George is planning R&R trips from Iraq.

    Do the math

So a million Americans will be here for a week each, during which they will spend 80 000 baht and go to bed at 10pm? :rolling:

Actually, when on holiday, I splurge and go to bed no sooner than 11:30 pm. :drunken:

You are up almost to midnight? I never realised you were going to such wild parties :sleepy1:

My goodness, yes. After a cost-be-damned dinner at McDonaldтАЩs , I go to the nearest bar for a nice drink, maybe two! Mind you, I am on holiday.

I off a nice boy who I expect will need my assistance for the following year. We have a rousing time watching Thai TV until 11:00 when we share carnal knowledge until 11:15. This gives him time to get home to take care of his sick Mama and prevent the elephant from sitting on the house.

I have time to read several books of the bible, ask for forgiveness, thank George for his inspired leadership and floss and brush my teeth before retiring. Hell of a schedule, but what the hey, I am on holiday. :rabbit:

    I try

I try to be in bed by 11:30 too--And asleep by 04:00. Earlier if Num goes home to take care of a sick elephant or keep mama from sitting on the house--That last one really worries me, if she falls off the roof and needs a face-lift (Lifted out of the bamboo patch.)--But he always wants to stay the night: to keep me from sleep walking. It's not the walking that bothers him so much, it's how (Via song-tau) & where (Boys Town, Beach Road, Those dark spots at Jomtien.) I might walk.
I find a little hint can be much more effective than a huge hissy.

    Re: I try

Thank you for that web link, Edith. So you and Pearl have been models for the Tourism Authority of Thailand with the theme "What we REALLY came to Thailand to do"?

You are doing well but Pearl looks a bit seasick there in the back.

    You'd be too, if you'd just been happy-slapped by a crocodile! :tongue2:
The poor croc is still in therapy.
