Gay Pattaya - an alternate view

There was recently a thread with this title, which had over 60 replies generating lively debate, but it seems to have disappeared!

Are we not entitled to an explanation? At least to ensure that we are aware of the rules that were broken?

The board was also recently flooded with posts on nearly every thread by one poster - most of which also seem to have disappeared.

    Are these events linked?

    Yes.

The poster you refer to posted defamatory remarks about various individuals on several threads. The attacks that were posted were willfully vicious and entirely indefensible.

I got sick of hunting each post down one by one and deciding which ones to delete, so I simply deleted the user from the database. I don't think that should make any whole threads disappear, but I could be wrong about that. I'm just starting to learn how to use databases. It's pretty complex and I don't have any time or patience for the nastiness displayed by that poster, so that's how I'm going to deal with that sort of thing.

    End of explanation.

Thank you 'Spike - and three cheers for positive moderation!

However, the 'alternate view' thread has disappered in the process. I think it's just been swept under the carpet somewhere out of view, because I can track it down....

If you get the time, please could you reinstate it (less the flames) as some of the comments were quite interesting!

You know, honestly I wasn't crazy about the way that thread was going anyway, but apparently when I purged the user that started it form the database that whole thread went with it. Unlike using the phpbb admin controls to simply move a thread out of view, when data is dropped from the database, that is an irreversible thing.

There were actually several threads that the person posted libelous remarks on, I guess that was just the only thread started by that poster. Interesting, I don't think it automatically does that when I delete the beginning post of a thread through the control panel. Oh, well, live and learn.

Again, the only reason I did it that way was because I didn't have time to sort thorough it via the board software control panel, so I just went right to the database. I really don't want to spend anymore time on this now, either. I'm working on big new features that everyone on the board can enjoy right now.

I also don't think it's a good idea to lavish any attention on the deleted poster by belaboring this issue. It is just that kind of attention this sort of person is looking for. For that reason I'm going to lock this thread now. Let's please just move on.

    Thanks.

Interesting. The thread is still here, but somehow was knocked back off of the first page when I did the user delete in the database. HHe didn't even start that thread, Sen Yai, you did!

    Missing Thread

Just let's not get too personal, O.K.?
