    Jomtien accomodation

Planning a trip to Pattaya but will have to stay in Jomtien area (near by Welcome Jomtien) as I will be meeting up with someone who works and stay nearby that area. Any suggestion for a nice hotel nearby there? Looks like it will be very far from Boyztown area if I should stay there.

There are numerous places depending on what type of accomadations you are looking for -- from friend's comments and other posters views, it appears that Poseidon (www.poseidon-pattaya.com) and bondi (www.thebondipattaya.com) in Jomtien Complex are popular - there is also Tui's Place and Room Club (www.room-club.com) on Dongtan Beach (a bit of a walk to catch baht bus). These places are gay operated. There has also been some positive comments for Avalon Resort (www.avalonbeachresort.com) near Tui's and Room Club -- I understand they have a "cart" to take guests to the main road -- there is also Rabbit Resort in the same area (their "cart" apparently doesn't operate between 10am and 5pm since it has to travel along Dongtan Beach, which is closed to most traffic during those hours.

I'm sure there are several other places that can be provided by other members of this board -- baht bus ride to boyztown area takes about 15 to 20 minutes unless traffic is worse than usual - holiday weekends, etc.

The Rabbit Resort is fabulous, I have stayed there twice. Deb the American owner is a gem.

I also highly recommend the Bondi -- I stayed there almost every weekend for 6 months while my condo was being built (actually I miss staying there now that I'm moved in!). The owners are very friendly and accommodating, the staff take very good care of guests, and the room prices are surprisingly low. There was also a post yesterday entitled 'Pattaya/Jomtien Service Apartments for rent' -- a fellow offering condos for rent (minimum 2 nights, I believe). View Talay 2 and View Talay 5 are both very convenient to Jomtien Complex and the latter to the gay beach.

Per your concern about being away from Boystown -- not to worry! You are 5-10 minutes away by motorcycle taxi or baht bus, and you might find the entertainment in Jomtien to be better than Boystown. Personally I visit Boystown 1 out of every 5-10 trips to Jomtien -- when I have a friend visiting who has never been to Pattaya before.

Does Bondi have a lift? That's an important consideration for some people.

You may want to consider a service apartment rather than a hotel - as it gives you the extra option available with a european kitchen, sleep in late and make a cup of coffee and a piece of toast when it is convenient for YOU to do so. Enjoy the extra space that most hotel room don't offer and of course the savings you will experience on the daily rate which could be well applied to other pleasures. Check out www.asian-escapes.com - you won't be disappointed.

Jomtien is only a short ride by public transportation to Boyz Town. To make yourself more mobile, you could even rent a motorbike at about 150 baht/day. Most visitors to Pattaya usually spend their days on the beach here in Jomtien and their nights enjoying the night live in Boys Town.

I think you are close to being 'spot on'. Most farangs do spend most days at the beach, but I think most of the guys are home on the range in Sunee as the sun goes down. Perhaps I speak for myself only, but after dinner I tend to like the Sunee more than Boys Town. Don't get me wrong. I like Boys Town and have nothing but nice memories of Cafe Royale and Ambiance, and consider the staff as friends. A little little story from last August. I found myself sitting out a down pour across from Topman. I ordered a beer and then watched the water rise to 4 or 5 inches all around the bar. It was still pouring and I had finished my beer and a young man from the bar came over to me and offered me an umbrella. Heck I did not mind the rain it was the 4 or 5 inches of water I did not want to wade thru.. Stoke of genius, I have too few of them, must mention when they happen. I called a motor bike boy over and hopped on and had him take me to Howards a block a way. I was very happy to pass him 20 baht for the ride.

Boni no lift, Poseidon has one. Bondi has very hard beds, I can't sleep on them, otherwise it's a very nice place. Poseidon is very nice, nice bath and they have these insulated sound proof glass sliding doors on the windows with heavy curtins. You can close everything up and it's night time at high noon.
