    Hotel Muse opens in Bangkok

This opened a few months ago but I never noticed it until I saw it on my local news site.

Rather creative... Rates look like they're starting from around AUD$160 or 5,000 baht/night, which is reasonable.

Looks pretty cool! Not sure if I'll stay there but definitely going there for a drink next visit. Rooftop bar looks awesome.

    Darkly intriguing
    February 5, 2012

A new hotel in the Thai capital combines vintage chic with modern comfort, writes Julietta Jameson.

BANGKOK'S early 21st-century mood of consumerism and opportunity spawned lavish hotels, spectacular bars and elaborate rooftop pools, a stratum of glamour and fantasy above the city's daily life.

It became a crowded market, perhaps an overcooked one. Then political unrest, economic downturn and natural disaster affected Thailand and it was only a matter of time before places would emerge of a more intimate, individual and human scale.

Hotel Muse offers the best of the city without being shouty about it. Outside, it melds into the streetscape rather than dominating it and inside, it offers a nostalgic connection to more genteel times.

In many ways the veritable antithesis of flash, it takes on Bangkok's best in quality, beauty and that fabulous ambience of life well lived that the city's upscale hospitality does so well...

Read the reviews on Tripadvisor. Oh dear. If they are to be believed in regard to service the hotel has big problems.

I'm not too worried because that's not too uncommon for new hotels and quality hotels like this one always get these issues ironed out in due course.

When the Siam Kempinski opened that had major service staff issues, as reported on Tripadvisor, too. But when I went there the next year everything was fine! Service was fantastic.

Most of the new 5-star hotels there seem to be in the 7,000+ range so 5,000 is quite reasonable if the place is new and up to a good standard. Some of the other places you pay 4,000-5,000 for (Dusit Thani, for example) are old and worn but this place is brand new.
