    Buying the bottle in Pattaya

Buying the bottle to bring to the bar I understand is acceptable. So i will ask the following. What liquor would be appreciated by the boys/staff..rum, scotch.whiskey? Im not to be drinking it so it makes no difference to me. If the whole bottle were to be used up what would it cost me about for mixers etc. i know there is a cost to open the bottle itself too.
I am trying to determine what it would cost vs having a few drinks. Would seem that enjoyment for a whole bunch would be more entertaining and engaging than juts the regular chit chat that a single would have.
Oh yes..and how about the tipping not so much for the "boys" but for the staff for their part.

Thanks guys...Oh ya how much does the bottle of xxxx cost these days in Pattaya at the liquor store?

    Look at it this way.
You buy a bottle of 100 Pipers in a bar that is reasonable. 1400 - upwards.
You buy a bottle at 7 - 11 100 Pipers and it is 500 baht. Bring it to the bar and open it. 400 - 500 corkage fee. Now we have 900 baht - 1,000. Mixers. Coca cola, ice, soda water etc 500 - 800 baht. Now we are at 1,500 - 1800.
Bottle with mixers in a bar from the bar was 1,400 to 1,900
    Do the math. Same same.

    2 utterly pedantic points:

    1. There is no such product as Scotch Whiskey.

    2. "Adding up" is not MATH, it's not even MATHS, not even MATHEMATICS - it is ARITHMETIC.

    So there!!

    :tongue3:

Now now, keep your wig on.

There is a "stop" between scotch and wiskey it shold have been a comma.

Therefore scotch from Scotland and The whiskey from Ireland, we all knew that.

Well SG, where I come from which is the place you say destroyed your loverly English language, we say all the time...."so you go do the math" or something very similar.

I have a question for ya. Did you understand the sentence? Obviously you did so stick the bottle of scotch whiskey up where the sun don't shine. :bootyshake:

Good point. This creature thinks he is so wise and brilliant but, after all, he is nothing but a self proclaimed Scot. Not much in that. All Scots are overly proud without any reason to be so.

@ Jinks - "Therefore scotch from Scotland and The whiskey from Ireland, we all knew that".

Actually the Scottish lower class of stuff ( distilled only 2 times) is called Whisky whereas the good stuff ( the Irish which is distilled 3 times) is called Whiskey - which is why then of course that a wonderful bottle of Bushmills is just SO much better than that second rate poor relation Scottish stuff that's pimped out around the world to unsuspecting drinkers who know no better - until they taste the real stuff of course and then they never look back !! :-))))

While you won't be refused bringing in and opening your own bottle, i would say taking a bottle into a regular bar, agogo or beerbar is tolerated rather than acceptable in my opinion nowadays, and as you can see from Justme's reply the bar tends to make up any profit loss with 'corkage' anyway. It's not really the 'done thing' with regards to these kind of bars. What you should do is compare the cost of opening a bottle with free mixers at Bt1200-Bt1400 from the bar versus buying individual drinks at Bt150 in that bar, so if you plan to stay for a while and buy say, 8 or more drinks then a bottle is the way to go. Others with more experience than I may contradict me, but I think gone are the days where it was the 'norm' to take a bottle into bars and even Hollywood and the clubs, while it is still done i think most customers just get the 'house' bottle. Years ago the first thing you did before hitting the clubs was to go to the specialist 'whisky shop' beside Hollywood or whatever club you were going and buy the bottle to take in. However it is still a popular and acceptable thing to do after 2am when going round karaokes where you take an unfinished bottle from the last karaoke onto the next one.

Well,in most bars the waiter who opens the bottle and serves you the first couple of drinks tends to oversee your bottle until finished or you go, I normally tip this main server Bt100 as well as offering drinks from the bottle. (If you invite boys to sit with you for fun/drink then obviously tips for them would be required too)

Me neither, while i have seen many bottles bought from the bar being opened there, or even re-opened on a second or subsequent night, i can't remember seeing a customer take one in to a regular bar or agogo

Whisky would be the most popular by miles, 100 pipers is more than ok, or just pick the cheapest bottle-set on the menu, I wouldn't bother paying for JWalker Red or better as you are just wasting your money, nobody especially Thai boys can tell what brand of whisky they are drinking if drowned in soda, water or coke or mixture of the three.
