Don't most booking services provide a refund if they offer a better price after purchase? I was experimenting with fares the other day for the Christmas time-frame. I'm not sure the price of long-haul flights to BKK would be as affected as you might think by the civil unrest. Many passengers on these routes are just passing through on their way to somewhere else. E.g. Sydney to London goes via BKK. It's a hub, like Singapore is.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best days to book.
