"Global warming is everyone's responsibility," says Uaphan Chamnanua, public outreach coordinator of Greenpeace Southeast Asia. To celebrate each country has her own campaigns to suit her own situation, says the coordinator. She cited Bali, for an example, where there is a campaign to stop the use of coal.
Planting a tree is the easiest and most economical way for each of us to participate in helping stop global warming, she added. "A plant in its whole life which can absorb a ton of carbon dioxide," she went on. So why Thailand's financial district was chosen as the venue for the campaign? "We acknowledged that working people with urban lifestyle, especially in the very heart of the city, consume larger amount of energy in a day than people in rural or other parts," the coordinator pointed out.
The free small plant is accompanied with a tag with a reminder that one can be environmental-conscious even if one sits in front of a monitor through out the day.
