    Thaksin resurfaces in Manchester, UK

From today's edition of The Times:

Stuart Pearce was dismissed as Manchester City manager yesterday as the club cleared the decks in advance of a ┬г92 million takeover by Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand. Thaksin, who flew into Manchester for talks yesterday, is preparing to make a formal offer for the [soccer] club within days and has asked the board for help in finding a top-class coach to lead them into a new era... Thaksin and his financial advisers, seymour Pierce, are two weeks into a period of due diligence, inspecting the club's accounts before making his offer formal.

"The fruits of peace and tranquility... are the greatest goods... while those of its opposite, strife, are unbearable evils. Hence we ought to wish for peace, to seek it if we do not already have it, to conserve it once it is attained, and to repel with all our strength the strife which is opposed to it. To this end individual[s]... and in even greater degree groups and communities are obliged to help one another... from the bond or law of human society." [Marsilio dei Mainardini (c.1275-1342), Defensor Pacis]

The deal is reported to be worth ┬г160 million - not 92

So im assuming hes got at least treble that (probably more) stashed in the UK. Running a football club isnt profitable these days.

    Oogleman,

    No, you're right.

it isn't profitable but he's clever enough to be sharing the risk and diluting his investment with a number of others and it gives him a fabulous platform to voice a number of opinions and be in the spotlight for reasons maybe not associated with football.

He is also in a high profile Country, where the press will seize and print what he does. The BBC goes Global!!

New shirt sponsors "T.R.T. ?? ' You never know, He's a shrewd operator.
