Any chance of fun in Kanchanaburi?

    Hi guys

Not talking about elephant riding, of course. Any chance for fun in the jungle or shall I stick to another trip up Erawan falls.

    Cheers
    Jay

    Oh yes ...

Both The Felix River Kwai Resort T 034 515 061 but even more the River Quay Hotel T. 034 513 348 (with cruisy disco) can be recommended. Both places do have very handsome and helpful staff….. They will tell you where and when to go just in case you are feeling lonely. And dont worry about joiners fee, just be discrete.

During evenings quite a view cute Thai and plenty of very handsome Burmese boys are hanging around.

Kanchanaburi is also a popular holiday destination for many Thai people and usually busy every day, no just during weekends! Bookings in advance is advisable.

I've never ever had a problem there ...

Cruising information for any provincial town like Amnat Charoen is usually identical: find a disco, park, department store, or shopping mall, and the boys will find you.

Yes go to the tiger temple !!

    Yes,
Last year we have visited something very special indeed in Kanchanaburi province.

ItтАЩs a temple full of animals, mostly tigers. If you go there in the afternoon, you can literally walk between and if youтАЩre brave enough even touch the tigers. You only have to be very calm, be absolutely quiet and not use a flash camera. All the monks have huge scars on their arms and legs.

ItтАЩs a very thrilling, but slightly risky trip.

    Have fun but be careful.

    Thanks for your advice, ttom.

I've stayed at the Felix before, but was with my parents so there were limited opportunities for cruising!

Amnart Charoen or diving back into time ...

I have been there in 2002 alone on my way back from Laos, passing Mukdahan. I was the only guest in a typical Thai family hotel with about 20 rooms at the small provincial capital city. I have had a relaxing time and where invited to share the family dinner.

In 2004 I did stay for 2 days at the Fai Kid Hotel (T. 045 511222 or 08 1877 8839) which is only a few blocks away from the city centre traffic lights ( = road crossing Mukdahan / Udon / Yasosthon). I’ve got a very good and modern room like a 3-star hotel for 400 TBT including breakfast and most courteous attendance. And here is where the “night life” happened, if you are into karaoke.

Last November again we past Amnart Charoen province, coming from Ubon Ratchathani on our way meeting friends Yasothon. Together we went there for the boat race a Chanuman. My supervisor instructed me not to smile too much at the local boys…. Again, there where a few cuties around, obviously mostly well built farmers, searching for fun.

This time we all spend two days with friends of our friends near Phutta Utthayan dam. We al enjoyed a jolly good time, with lots of fun at the house and at the reservoir. And it was obvious that we where not the only “same-same” crowd at the dam. With guidance of out local friends we also spent quite an amount of money on excellent local silk fabric.

Amnart Charoen province has been just 15 or 20 years ago split off from Ubon Ratchathani province. The provincial capitol is just a small town is nothing more but a handful of streets. It is lovely in many ways, like diving back in time by 20 or so years. Several small shops and friendly people. All in a very peaceful motion.

At the small town all inhabitants seams to be related to each other, therefore I is wise to be somewhat discrete.

Yes, in generally you where somewhat correct.

Additionally nearly any larger place does have a park or similar area where people go jogging between 17 and 18 hrs. Just sit somewhere near toilets or bushed and smile a lot. If it doesn’t work immediately, just stroll after the masses towards the night markets very. There are always somewhat cruisy. And there are night food stalls, especially near late hang outs.

Thai people start work very early, soon after the sun raise. They like to have a break for lunch around 12 o’clock prompt and finish usually most of the daily working routine between 16 and 17 hours. They take a shower, change clothing several times, and maybe enjoy a swift beer before having dinner, usually at 18 hrs. Afterwards they are watching TV, gossiping with friends or do some shopping if needed. At 20.30 hrs hardly anybody went to bed or at least quietly home.

For Amnart Charoen please kindly advice me about disco, department store or shopping mall. Than you.
