What a rich fantasy life some members do have. Three young Caucasian backpackers go out for a night on the town. Do they take their passports with them? Almost certainly not. Would anyone expect them to show ID (let alone leave it at Reception) on visiting another Caucasian in his hotel room? Almost certainly not. The fact is, having a white face in Thailand (Bangkok, certainly) gives you a certain level of privilege unknown to Thais. Need to use a lavatory while out and about? Dressed like the white trash of Asia or your common-or-garden Australian (singlet and shorts)? No problems. Walk into the nearest 5- or 6-star hotel and locate their lavatories off the lobby. No-one will challenge you. I've never been asked to show ID when visiting other Caucasian friends in hotels or condos, and I don't expect to have to do so
I should add that when out and about during the heat of the day I often just sit in some hotel's airconditioned lobby and catch up with the news on my phone. Much more comfortable than a shopping mall
Evidently you lead a very sheltered life Joe
