Blood Pressure Meds

I will be in thailand for a visit in the near future.
I have recently been prescribed two meds for pre-hypertension (high blood pressure).

I take a calcium channel blocker and an ACE inhibitor.

Does anyone know where I can get these meds while in thailand. I did a search of past posts and did not find a specific reference to these meds. I was hoping to go to a local pharmacy and pick up a couple of weeks supply.

Yes.Yes...I know there will be lots of folks who caution against local meds and I should get them from my home country and blah blah blah...Thanks in advance for the blah blah blah..

What I need is information on where I can get these specific meds.

If I go to a pharmacy (I will be staying near sunee plaza in two guys guesthouse) and show them the meds I have then they should be able to sell them to me?

If that is the case then my problem is solved.

Yes. If not, try a larger pharmacy. There is no restriction on sales of drugs of this type, unlike Viagra.

Perhaps the so-called Welsh police officer would like to examine whether or not high blood pressure medications fall into the same class as ED drugs in Thailand? If he did, he would discover that there is no restriction on their sale. They are available over-the-counter at Boots, Watsons, and any chemist -- as opposed to the ED drugs which by law can be dispensed legally only by a physician at a hospital or clinic.

Watson and Boots will be a bit higher priced than a regular Thai pharmacy. Try to buy any meds from a pharmacy that is air conditioned at least during the day. Not for your comfort, but it helps preserve the potentcy of the drug. Heat deminishes the potency.

Your BP medicine will most likely be available, but may have a different name (e.g., supplied from Germany instead of USA). I have found Fascino pharmacy on North Road to have the best prices - they are a large chain with several stores in Bangkok and around Thailand. Fascino on North Road is very large and has a large inventory as well as medical equipment (beds, wheel chairs, etc.) and other medical items (bandages, bedpans, etc.). I have been told they have a small outlet on South Road - somewhere near the Wat - not sure if on same side or opposite side. If the South Road store doesn't have it on hand, they order it from the North Road store and ask you to come back later to pick it up.

I have printed out a list of the generic names of the classes of drugs that I am taking. My plan is to show the pharmacist the generic names and hope we can sort out any confusion.
