"Please be careful of 'Flu Pig' ... "
Suffering from a very bad cold a few weeks ago and gave the beloved a phone call. He heard me coughing and wheezing over the line and asked me if I was OK, and " ... please to be careful of 'flu pig' ... ". ('Flu Pig' in Thai might well be 'Flu Moo'? :blackeye: ).
Anyway, I don't have it, but Thailand has apparently now confirmed the first death from Flu Moo in country. Inevitable I guess.
Given the numbers of cases reported world wide so far, this Flu seems hardly a rampant killer. Yet ...
So be careful out there boys and girls: slap a condom on your head :smurf:

Thailand Records First Swine Flu Deaths
BANGKOK тАУ Thai health officials announced on Saturday the country's first two swine flu-related deaths, while Australia reported its fifth. All three patients also had other health problems.
A 40-year-old Thai woman died June 20 at a Bangkok hospital, while a 42-year-old Thai man died Saturday at a hospital in southern Chonburi province, Public Health Ministry Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Paichai Warachit said.
Ms. Paichai said her office was only told late Friday about the woman's death. It was unclear where the two contracted the virus, and the ministry refused to identify them.
"It is confirmed that the two patients died because of the H1N1 virus and also because they had pneumonia," Ms. Paichai said.
The Public Health Ministry said more than 1,200 people have contracted swine flu as of Saturday, including seven Navy cadets. Most have recovered, though 16 remain in the hospital. None was in critical condition.
In Australia, a 26-year-old woman who also had a serious pre-existing medical condition died late Friday after spending several days in Royal Perth Hospital's intensive care unit, Western Australia chief health officer Tarun Weeramanthri said. Her identity and details of her medical condition were not released.
As of Friday, 3,519 people in Australia had been diagnosed with the virus.
New Zealand, meanwhile, raised its tally of confirmed swine flu cases to 507. Deputy Director of Public Health Darren Hunt said Saturday the country's toll was probably higher since officials are no longer conducting lab tests on all suspected cases, and most people recover from the predominantly mild flu before seeking medical attention.
In Hong Kong, the government confirmed 33 new cases, taking the city's total to 629. There have been no reports of deaths related to the virus in the territory.

Actually I've heard Thais refer to it as "Mexico," apparently based on its supposed origin.
Cute story. Obviously you have an active imagination and too much time on your hands.

Can't we all just take a hike, maybe to the alt.tastelessjokes Usenet newsgroup? Come on. It's the 2009 type-A (H1N1) influenza virus now or "Mexican" flu (to denote its presumed origin though I must ask isn't June traditionally a flu month in Thailand anyway?). Come on guys, it has NOTHING to do with pigs anymore.

I have a Thai friend who referred to it as "the pig fever". Took me a second to figure out what he meant. He is visiting the US at the moment and asked me if it was safe to come here because of the pig fever. I guess the media really did create a hysteria. I told him to wash his hands a lot and he should be OK. The percentage of people effected here is incredibly tiny.

On Thai TV news the word khaiwat moo was the big buzz word and top story until Michael Jackson died.

Something completely different, well different:
In Holland they suffer from the so called Q-fever. I kind of bacterial infection caused by high concentrations of goats and sheep.
Over the last weeks approx. 1,400 people were reported suffering from the bacteria and 4 people died until yesterday.
The bacteria travels through the air and is spreading rapidly.

Actually, the Thai government has announced that the "Bird Flu" and the "Swine Flu" have mutated and conjoined. The Thai Army has been told to be on the lookout for, and shoot down, all flying pigs. :blackeye:

Many more people die each year from ordinary flu than are affected by this weird hybrid flu. During the Swine Flu hysteria err.. "outbreak" in The Seventies, more people died from the vaccine than died from the virus.
This "Deek" guy tells it like it is:
