Flying to Buri Ram might work if it's one of those three days a week, and if landing at 5pm suits you, and if you are going to western Surin.

But for Surin City, or a town/village in the east or south of the province, a bus or train from BKK might be better overall.

My b/f prefers the last bus out of Mo Chit. It leaves around 10pm and takes about 6 hours. Sometimes he has to chill a bit at the Surin bus station until the first songteow arrives that can be hired for the trip southwards to his village.

    Attention

Buriram airport is in Satuk (about 30km of the city of buriram) so about 70 Km from surin

Train and busses are better options

Train : very slow but safe

Bus : I live on the highway 24 that goes from Chokchai to Surin. Accidents with busses happen very often.

After reading the comments here, I am considering trying the train for my next visit when I plan on visiting Surin. A seven hour journey for 389 baht sounds survivable. It looks less cramped than a bus, safer, and probably a better opportunity to talk to some Thais and see the countryside.

You have few way to go Buriram / Surin .
There are also many things to do in Buriram, actually the gay scene in Buriram is kind of active and the Disco have good music as well.

Take a look in this website Buriram Expats mapping all the Buriram province and city as well.. :happy7: http://buriramexpats.com

Went to Buriram & Surin a couple of years ago. Flew from Bangkok to Buriram (PB Air). No car rental at airport, had to go about 30 kms from the airport into the city. Found a very "mature" car for rent. Drove that to Surin, and of course had to drive it back to Buriram to turn it in a few days later.

To Surin by train might be a good choice. I'm sure you could rent a car once you get to Surin if you are going to need one.

You can rent a car in Bangkok and drive to Buriram. Lots of rental options in Bangkok including Budget and they deliver and pick up. Highway/Sathorn rental on the corner of Rama 4 and Sathorn (MRT Lumpini)as well but they don't generally deliver.
