    True as an ISP

I'm a Loxinfo user myself, but I wonder how many of our local members use True and are experiencing the same problems reported by Sticklman this week?

What True is doing is make it seem as though there is an error at the site you're trying to reach when in fact the problem is with them! And who ever could not even get the grammar right for that page should be shot! Cannot found? Naughty, naughty!

And speaking of internet access locally, net speed really sucked this week. Goodness only knows what the problem was but for sure, accessing many sites was a tedious affair.

Maybe something to do with this, and if someone knows what this article means feel free to tell me:

    TELECOMMUNICATIONS

AIS prepares to roll out 3G services in Bangkok in June

    KOMSAN TORTERMVASANA & SRISAMORN PHOOSUPHANUSORN

"Advanced Info Service says it will launch commercial 3G services in Chiang Mai next month and in Bangkok in June. President Wichian Mektrakarn said the country's largest cellular operator would also ask rival DTAC to help encourage the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to license the 2100 MHz spectrum for the third-generation mobile broadband services.
The purpose is to resolve the long-standing deadlock to progress in the industry by freeing private mobile phone operators from existing concessions that are going to expire soon.
All 3G trials planned so far have been based on 900 MHz and 850 MHz, which were already covered in the existing concessions. Since the concessions are going to expire in the next few years, the operators are hesitant to invest more.
Under the existing build-transfer-operate concessions, all investments that the private operators make in networks would become state assets.
On the other hand, private operators would be willing to invest in developing applications on the new spectrum as it was not bound by their expiring concessions, Mr Wichien said.
AIS, together with TOT Plc, is now seeking permission from the NTC to import HSPA equipment to be used in the capital and will try to launch the services in June.
HSPA (high-speed packet access) is an upgrade to 3G networks that use the W-CDMA air interface.
He said that the commercial roll-out of 3G services, enhanced by HSPA, would take place first in Chiang Mai after the company had prepared 30 base stations for a commercial trial with TOT Plc.
But he said that AIS was awaiting clarity from the NTC, expected in 30 days, to determine whether the roll-out would be a commercial launch or the start of a commercial trial.
For the Chiang Mai launch, Mr Wichien said that users needed to register for the new services or replace their SIM cards with compatible ones.
AIS yesterday also joined the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (Osmep) to introduce an SME development project to help improve their potential.
The project includes the introduction of an Osmep business-matchmaking website and SME SIM cards.
The website enables companies to search information and knowledge involving marketing and technology through mobile phones.
Mr Wichian said the company hoped the SME SIM cards would help companies enhance their potential and save costs and time.
Jhitraporn Techacharn, director of the Osmep, said marketing and technology devices were essential for SMEs to develop businesses.
Shares of AIS (ADVANC) closed at 91.50 baht yesterday, down one baht, in trade worth 346.92 million baht. "

The web is often a disaster at True probably crushing under the weight of internet censorship filtering and ALWAYS slowing to a full crawl when the teenagers get home from school. Still, downloads, video and audio (MSN, SkyPe), etc. seem to go on with just enough well managed bandwidth to be worthwhile. Unfortunately there's little other choice except dial-in which is more troublesome where I a m.

The only error message that I see I can't read in Thai, says something about "Les Majeste" according to the b/f of another poster here.

It's not just True. If you read through a year or so of threads in the Internet, computers, communication, technology forum on Thaivisa.com you'll find grumblings about all the ISPs. A lot of the problems seem to be intermittent.

Currently, using TT&T Maxnet ADSL, I cannot access the www.compusa.com or www.tigerdirect.com web sites. I was last week, and probably will be able to again next week. I'm trying to advise a friend in America who's buying a new notebook computer, and I simply can't look at the same web pages he can in the US.

It's not simply a problem with TT&T's DNS server, either. Long ago, I switched to OpenDNS which cleared up a lot of access problems, but this week using either OpenDNS or TT&T's own DNS servers, I simply cannot access those two particular domains. TiT...

I've even gone through periods of not being able to get e-mail using my ADSL connection. When I cannot, I fire up my backup 56-k dial-up Ji-Net (the cheapest one I could find: 30 hours for B120) and the mail downloads without a hiccough.

I also have MAXNET and just tried to Download compusa and Tigerdirect. No problem. Yesterday MAXNET was down for a few hours. I know MAXNET has different levels of service so am not sure if I was just lucky today or the level of service makes a difference.

I just tried again, and could get both sites again, but after noon on Sunday, all day Monday and earlier today I couldn't. Thanks for the heads up to check again, so now I can see what computers my friend is yammering about. :-)
