St. Patricks Day celebrations in Ireland

In 2008, St. Patrick's Day religious celebrations in Ireland will be moved two days forward to the 15th March. This is because the 17th of March 2008 falls on the second day of Easter Week, and Easter Week takes priority over any other feasts. So with approval from Rome, the Catholic Church in Ireland have moved St. Patrick's Day religious celebrations two days forward to the 15th March 2008.

St. Patrick's Day in Ireland has only ever once been moved and that was in 1940 when St. Patrick's Day clashed with Palm Sunday тАУ which was the first day of Holy Week.

But don't worry if you're coming to Ireland next year to soak up the excitement and atmosphere of the Paddy's Day celebrations, as the festivities and parades will still go ahead as normal and take place on the 17th March.

I would guess that, even if there were to be some sort of event at the Birdcage on 15 or 17 March, it is not very likely that it will be (in the words of your post) a "St. Patrick's Day religious celebration"!

If a religious celebration is a party for you than there might a bit of a misunderstanding.

I am confused (it happens often hahaha)

Does the announcement from the Church in Ireland not simply mean the special Mass offered in churches (etc) on the feast day of St Patrick has been moved due to a clash with easter?

I assume secular parties etc will still be on 17th as always?
