Selling Sex - is Thailand expensive?

Interesting article based on papers presented at the American Economic association meeting appears in this weeks Economist.
Compared with the US , paid sex in Thailand appears expensive!

The article indicates prostitutes charge $25-30 per hour in Chicago. Here are my thoughts:
    1. The price quotes do not including motel fees.
For the tourists in Thailand, they stay in hotels already, so hotel fees is not extra.
    2. The $25-30 is in Chicago, I am sure many other major cities cost more, for example, New York, Los Angeles...etc.
    3. The article was not clear, but I suppose $25-30 is for female prostitutes. Male prostitutes charge are like to charge more.

A easy way to find out how much gay prostitutes charge in the U.S. is simply checking out the escort service ads on the gay news papers. I've never seen any of them charge only $25-30.

    Two more points:

    1. although the cost of male prostitutes in the US appears to be higher than that for women, in Thailand - as discussed previously on this forum - the fee expected by a boy offed from a bar is almost always less than than expected by a girl.

    2. customers in Chicago are more likely to be paying for sex from their normal and restricted weekly income. Farang tourists in Thailand, on the other hand, may well have been saving up for many months for their vacation and so will have more disposable income in the "vacation fund" to shell out on one-off pleasurable activities in which they may not indulge at all back home.

Hence we ought to wish for peace, to seek it if we do not already have it, to conserve it once it is attained, and to repel with all our strength the strife which is opposed to it. To this end individual[s]... and in even greater degree groups and communities are obliged to help one another... from the bond or law of human society." So many US prostitutes are drug addicts that it keeps the price down. Here in Baltimore, there was such an upsurge of addiction 10-12 years ago that the price of a Monica Lewinsky got down to $5. (It has since risen) Please note that none of these women would be confused with Elly Mae Clampett or Lt. Uhura in their primes.....

According to that piece of Congressional pornography, the Starr Report, Monica performed eleven acts (or was it 10?) of oral-genital sex and one of oral-anal sex. Bill Clitoris masturbated her with a cigar and then smoked it. Which of those is "a Monica Lewinsky"?

I think she rimmed him. To return to the topic, when I first came to Thailand 20 years ago, boys expected 500 baht. Now they expect 1500 baht. However the USD/THB exchange rate has also moved, so that 500 then in USD is probably 750 now had the exchange rate remained the same (which it hasn't - just ask WhiteDesire)

where are you getting your hookers?

gay escorts in the usa charge $100 - $300 per hour.
(or so i hear) :shy: they charge $1,000 to $1,200
or more for an overnight. (or so i hear) :shy: plus
wining and dining, shopping, sometimes airfare, etc.

The american gay escorts don't usually have dying
buffalos or grandmothers, but they often need new
leather jackets or Dior sunglasses, car payments
    and rent payments.

    so anyway...i vote for thailand.

In the interests of research i had a quick look at Gaydar's escort section, where some of the guys quote their rates. Converting everthing to US$ gives the following:

    • Australia 160
      Paris 220
      Hong Kong 130
      Amsterdam 180
      Zurich 275
      London 200

If you are one of the guys that gets it for 500Bht, then it is an order of magnitude cheaper for you here. Pay the boy 1000 and 500bht for off fee and drinks - it is still under 50US, even at todays exchange rate.

... the article indicates that street prostitutes (ie. about as low as you can go in the sex-for-sale hierarchy) charge $25-$30 an hour. Without making that important distinction, everyone has gone haring down various by-ways on what used to be the Forum's most perennial topic - "How much do you tip a boy?". Most posters I'd suggest don't take boys off the street - but in my experience they are definitely cheaper than boys in the brothels (ie. the go-go bars). It's not uncommon - don't all rush to your keyboards now - to be asked for 500 baht by boys met on the Internet rather than two or three times that in a bar (or also on the Internet). Oh, and since we're talking about the Internet - what's happened to Ratefun?
