    ICE at the G-Star

First, I realize that you Pattaya residents and visitors will have no cue what I am talking about but the singer/actor Ice made an appearance at the G star Disco last night in Bangkok.

Ice Saranyoo is a popular singer who also appears in one of the Thai soaps in a small part as a love sick gun toting angry maniac. He is very popular in both straight and gay circles. He falls under the category as one of the Thai boy Asian Boy bands venue but is popular in other Asian countries as well. He has not been introduced in the Western circuit. He can sing, he does not fall under the category of the dance, pose and look pretty boy dance/sing genre.

G-Stay Club is a gay disco that gets few Farang customers. It's located at the dead end of Ratchadapisek soi 8. MRT Thailand Cultural Center exit 2, walk in the direction of the big Hollywood disco sign but keep right on soi 8 and walk around the corner. There are a few other gay venues that you will pass on your right. The ventilation is poor, it's smokey and cramped. They pack bodies in cheek to cheek.

It's interesting that Ice choose to perform in a gay club as he has not come out as gay. This is his first appearance in a gay venue. There were a few young Thai ladies at G star, several lady-boys but mostly young gay Thai guys. Not a farang in the house, except me.

Ice arrived in a small compact car, I was expecting a limo. He was led in by two big security guards and a long human chain of the clubs staff to the stage. He performed 4 numbers and chatted with the audience. No dramatic statements of any thing gay, in fact you would think that he was performing at the Erawan afternoon ladies tea society.

Ice follows the limbo patterns of those before him in the West, Liberace, Hudson and others' that neither come out or denies and keeps everyone guessing.

In my capacity as an Ice groupie I was there, and I can tell you that cucumber sandwiches did not figure among the refreshments on offer

not strictly true for Liberace. There was a famous libel case in London which he won by stating under oath "I am not a homosexual"
