As the global coronavirus pandemic rolls into its second year, much of the country is gripped by a new wave of Covid-19 infections after nearly nine months of minimal cases. As case numbers have more than doubled in recent days, the fresh wave has revealed the gross incompetence and corruption among Thai authorities.

As always, Mustn’t let facts get in the way of selling newspapers.
There’s nothing in the Bangkok Post statement from which one can infer what figures they’re talking. It could be “total active cases” rather than “new daily cases”.
The key words in that Bangkok Post article are surely "gross incompetence" and "corruption". Since this is Thailand I suppose we should have realised we were living in a false bubble of safety over the previous few months.
