Age checks

My mate is going to be a first time visitor to LOS in August. He has a preference for young looking slim boys but I stress he is not a pedo and only wants boys of legal age and upwards. I have warned him of the pitfalls of offing this type of guy. However, I was always led to believe that if a boy was offed from a (reputable) bar it was the bars responsibility to ensure that the boy was of legal age and had a legal ID.
I have given my mate all the info on converting Thai to English dates but having seen the standard of photo ID carried by bar boys this is no guarantee that the boy is who he says he is particularly with regards to the photo on the ID.
Can anyone with legal expertise explain the legal position of both parties i.e. the bar and the client?
I assume that in the end it is the client's responsibility to make sure of ID but what defence if any has one got if the bar is employing underage guys. I am referring to boys of say 17 or maybe 16 who pass for someone of legal age.

Do not believe the mamasans or that the bar does not let underage slip in, except for maybe a few "elite" bars like Boyz boyz boyz

Do not believe the the boys themselves, they have very little or nothing to lose by lying

It is very naive to believe taking from a bar protects you

Consider that many IDs are fake

Consider that many workers aren't even Thai

One question, doesn't Thailand have Napoleonic law, meaning if arrested, you are presumed guilty?

You might be on the wrong board. I am serioius. Try thaivisa.com in the gay section. That board is moderated by some people with real legal knowledge. It is an interesting question, but I think you will find if arrested, ignorance, lying by others, trusting businesses, is no protection or defense at all.

The bar has no legal responsibilty to the 'client' in assuring the boy is of legal age.

The bar is only answerable to the authorities if they are found to be employing under age workers and then only for employing them not for giving false information to the 'client.

The 'client' assuming or having been assured by the bar/club or boy/girl that they are of legal age is no defence.

Even if after having for instance the hotel desk check the ID and declaring it genuine that is not a defence it it is subsequently found not to be so.

Recent and ongoing events in both Pattaya and Bangkok should be a warning to 'your friend' of the risk of coming to the attention of the authorities should he decide to take a chance with any ID.
