All good things must come to an end!!!! Farewell Bondi!!!

This one has not been a тАЬgoodтАЭ thing, but a GREAT one!!!

Word is getting around town that the BONDI BEACH BAR AND RESTAURANT has closed and will likely not re-open under the previous management. If true, we of TAKE CARE!! bid the BONDI a fond and sincerest farewell. We will certainly miss you.

Over the last several years, the BONDI (earlier known as OZZ BAR) has been hosting a monthly fundraising event that has been on the regular calendar of many folks in our community тАУ QUIZ NIGHT @ BONDI!!!! The last Sunday of the month has seen the gathering of upwards to 40 regular whizz kids (well, not really kids!!) supporting the fundraising efforts of TAKE CARE!! and having good fun while doing so.

The funds realized have gone to purchase tens of thousands of Safer Sex Packs distributed through Pattaya and Jomtien focusing on the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

We wish Colin and Malcolm all the best in their future endeavors and send them, the staff of Bondi and all of the regular quizzers special thanks for your support.

Totally coincidentally, a few months ago, the COLONIAL BAR in Sunee Plaza started hosting a QUIZ NIGHT on the second Sunday of each month, also as a fundraiser for TAKE CARE!! We hope we will see all of the gang (and newcomers, as well, of course) who so faithfully supported us at Bondi testing their trivial knowledge every month at Colonial.

    TAKE CARE!!

Any reason why they are quitting?? Seemed like a nice enough place, I had at least a dozen meals and countless sundowners there. Ideal business place for a semi retired farang to manage whilst living in the paradise that is Pattaya.

Good luck to Colin and Malcolm in whatever they plan for their future. Hopefully something new in Pattaya.

Read this blurb posted on Gaybutton ...
Also, according to several sources, The two owners of Bondi in Jomtien have left Thailand under, shall we say . . . questionable circumstances. If there is any truth to the information I am being given, I doubt they will be back - ever.

    If true, good luck indeed.
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

I heard a very nice story about some bar owners who got together and raised enough money to pay the wages due to Bondi's staff.

No trip to Pattaya was complete without a breakfast or two at Bondi. It won't stay closed for long. The location is simply too good. This is one business that it would take a complete fool not to be able to make a go of.

But doesn't the history of Pattaya bars indicate that there are plenty of such "complete fools" who are more than willing to run previously successful businesses into the ground...? Remember the genius with the amazingly novel business plan that finished off Krazy Dragon within a matter of months?
"The fruits of peace and tranquility... are the greatest goods... while those of its opposite, strife, are unbearable evils. Hence we ought to wish for peace, to seek it if we do not already have it, to conserve it once it is attained, and to repel with all our strength the strife which is opposed to it. To this end individual[s]... and in even greater degree groups and communities are obliged to help one another... from the bond or law of human society." [Marsilio dei Mainardini (c.1275-1342), Defensor Pacis]

Often, all is not what it seems in the farang province of the LOS.From what I remember the ex-cop who bought Crazy Dragon was crazy to do so cos the dragon was on its last legs already. Yes his idiosyncratic shenanigans didn't help I know. Likewise with the Bondi-before the closure 50% of the business aka "the problem" was for sale. But it's easy to judge from the outside. Being involved with business here is no picnic what with restrictive work permits, Key Money, theft, gambling boyfriends, slowing economy, chinese rod dit everywhere and so on.

Traffic jambs caused by the monster chinese tour buses is what I ment and should have have written. Take a walk through soi Daynight behind Mosaic Apts morning or evening and you will see these monsters facing the hotel and belching exhaust fumes into the shops behind. Dr Olivier has moved to Theprassit Rd. Other businesses are complaining but the Chink hotel claims that it owns the space.
