Title is a bit misleading. Free Guy has been around for ten years so is hardly new. Just been closed for a few weeks for a refurb. A bit more info: Free Guy Club and Relax also about the re-opened Relax Karaoke.

Looks like good news for Gay Chiangmai but maybe not fully.

When I see that the refurbishment involves a New Relax Karaoke I can't help but smell a rat, well actually, WOMEN CUSTOMERS and in the competition stakes THIS IS NEVER GOOD FOR GAYS.

Let's wait and see.

FreeGuy has a pair of very ugly Thai female customers who come every so often and get a bottle of whiskey for the guys. Of course the guys are attracted to the whiskey like flies to manure, but these two gals would be tough to service in bed even if they had bags over their heads, the lights were off, etc. I've read the opinions of posters on these boards who recommend buying a whiskey bottle for the guys, but my opinion is that there is a very low return on that investment and it seems to be done most often by some fairly undesirable customers.

Two visits ago at Relax, I watched one girl across the aisle with her hand down a guy's crack, fingering him. I remember thinking that was a very strange public display of affection... Some of the "ladies" at the gay clubs are just as ill-mannered as a stereotypical fat, bald, Pattaya pervert.

Female customers have always been a part of the go-go and karaoke scene in Chiang Mai. Its nothing new. Seems that a lot of Thai ladies quite like the straight Shan boys, and for them its relatively safe as the cultural differences and lack of Thai ID mean there is no risk of emotional entanglement. There used to be a brothel in Nimmanhaeminda that catered exclusively for the up market Thai ladies, there are probably others around too. It's not unusual for a women to pull up outside a go-go and take a boy without coming into the clubs either (same actually applies to some male Thai customers too). Some of the Tai Yai boys have quite rich female Thai sponsors who look after them well.

Apart from having off-able boys, Relax and Barocco etc, have always been places where the bar boys and girls went for a drink after work. Considering many of the Shan boys have wives and girl friends who work in the business its not unusual for them to meet there, or in one of the Tai Yai Karaokes (not recommended for tourists ).

Wouldn't be the first time in a Karaoke I've been warned off a boy by their wife! Nor, the first time I've seen the Tai Yai's fighting to the death over a female customer. 8-|

I have no objection to female customers-fat, bald, perverted or otherwise.

My point is a simple one i.e. when a straight boy (my favorite type) has the choice of being fondled by a fat bald female "pervert " or a fat bald male "pervert " the gay male "pervert" looses out -every time.

There are many bars for female "perverts" in Bangkok where male customers are forbidden. I'm fully in favour of them.

But no so-called "gay" bar that puts me in competition with women customers will EVER get their hands on MY cash.
