Two great rooftop bars in Bangkok

Of course this will not appeal to those who skulk around cheap and nasty bars looking for a cheap root and cheap lodgings, but the two bars mentioned, top dollar expected for the view, seem spectacular.

I have skipped over beachlovers mentions of the Lebua bar, have not seen the Hangover movie[as yet]. But both might be just the location the very hot nights to take in the cool air and the visual highlights

The Best Roof Tops of Asia

    By Carlos Melia

What could be better than to combine amazing drinks, a great, sexy, and sophisticated crowd, and the most breathtaking 360 degree panoramic views of one of the up and coming and avant-garde cities of Asia? As soon as I arrive to any big urban destination on this side of the world, my first question to pop up to the concierge of my hotel is, "Where are the Roof Top Bars?" and there I go, and there I went to share my experiences with you.

My absolute favorite is the Ku De Ta Lounge in Singapore on the 57th floor of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel & Casino SkyPark. Featuring the most spectacular 360 degree views of Singapore Bay, particularly from their beyond real infinity pool. Ku De Ta is divided into two sections, including the restaurant and the lounge/club. Check out additional info and videos here.

Ranking second is the world renown SkyBar in Bangkok, Thailand. This Rooftop Bar was made famous by the movie The Hangover II. It's located on top of the The Dome at State Tower Lebua Hotel. You can see mesmerizing views of the city and the Chao Phraya River as you're suspended in the sky on the 63rd floor. Sit at the stunning multi-hued bar with the finest selection of vintages, beverages, cocktails and appetizers in Bangkok. Check out additional info and videos here.

Successful Rooftop Bars can be outdoor or indoor, although sometimes the heights rule, like the Ozone Rooftop Bar in Hong Kong at the brand new Ritz-Carlton Hotel, considered to be the tallest hotel in the world. You can enjoy signature cocktails and exotic selections of Asian tapas while listening to DJ beats. The bar is located on the 118th floor of the ICC Tower in Kowloon Island. There's an outside terrace if you dare, with lovely views of the Hong Kong peninsula. Check out additional info and videos here.

Last but not least, more modest but still quite striking, is the MoonBar in Bangkok. Located on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Bangkok. With a smart, casual dress code the place has a friendly and romantic ambiance. A beautiful place to contemplate the heavens or gaze at the stars while you sip your favorite beverage.

I actually much prefered the Moon Bar in the Banyan Tree over Sky bar as I found it to be much less pretentious and also a hell of a sight less expensive for drinks and cocktails - and the view ( whilst not perhaps getting the same full on river view as Sky bar maybe) is still excellent.

frankly, i do not like those repeat posters, its like parrotting-this comes from a blog i mentioned the odd week ago-apparently that guy is some self-appointed gay travel writer or so. (as I have too many sights of touristy things Thai- always on the lookout for new, really unknown things, but not that eternal 13 in the dozen seen already). or maybe he deits an gay-travel mag.

Best 'rooftop' bar/restaurant I have encountered is the one which used to be on the Karnmanee Palace Hotel, Sapahn Kwai. No 'sophisticated sexyness' there just the lovely ambiance of an open setting (no roof, glass or otherwise) seeing the stars in the sky above, a little breeze now and again and a view of the surrounding area of a normal thai district. At it's height a few years ago there was a fantastic folk band playing famous thai songs, a menu which included an Issan section...with snake etc... and a laid back non-judgemental crowd of mainly str8's, mostly Thai with one or two foreigners. Great service with reasonable prices....and the Leo/Chang/Heineken was only available in large bottles for sharing as is the Thai way.

Not a sophisticated, sexy, amazing, pretentious hi-so snob in sight , thank god. What's the point of coming to Thailand just to see clones of what you have left behind in Euroland and travelled so far to get away from!

Witchcraft has taken the trouble to pass on a piece which others may not have seen and which may be of interest to them, that seems to be a concept you have difficulty buying into Pong. Not everybody reads the same blogs and articles as you, so what makes you think that by repeating the post it will not be of interest to others?

"What could be worse" would be a more relevant question to ask in my opinion. Whilst i'm sure the view would be spectacular, the 'amazing' drinks....err......'amazing' and the 'sexy' and sophisticated crowd 'wonderful'.......unfortunately pretentious hi-so snobs and pretentious hi-so wannabees that go with it, as I say are exactly what I come to Thailand for to get away from in Euroland! Add to that the fact that a Thai hi-so snob is worse, there is no incentive to visit for me.

Re: Two great rooftop bars in Bangkok

I have had dinner in both of the two mentioned Bkk hotel rooftop restaurants -- both are pricey but as a once off special occasion type dinner event its hard to see what could beat them --

The other guests did not bother me in the slightest( Hi-So or not ) --i enjoyed the views/ambiance/amazing food and drinks and the music that was being played whilst we ate and drank high up in the sky !!

You must hang out in high circles in Euroland then New A if you come across soo many that they bother you so much !!

Otherwise, I would go to a restaurant for the quality of the food and ambiance second.

Bet seriously, can someone please define a sexy, and sophisticated crowd when we talk about restaurants. :dontknow:
