    What's your favourite Thai song?

WellтАж IтАЩve just fallen in love with a guy and this is the fastest itтАЩs ever happened. Barely just met him so am quite shocked! What's he done to me?!

Being in a romantic moodтАж I guess itтАЩs fitting to askтАж WhatтАЩs your favourite Thai song?

It doesnтАЩt matter if you canтАЩt speak Thai. I canтАЩt follow the words in any of these songs myself.

The thing that gets me with Thai songs is the melody and the beautiful sound of Thai words. With Western songs I tend to like the stuff with a fairly quick tempo. But with Thai songs it seems to be the slower stuff I catch onto.

My BF tries to explain the meaning to meтАж But what really makes my heart melt is when weтАЩre walking home along a quiet street at night and he starts singing softly to me. He's got such a beautiful voice, itтАЩs like thereтАЩs an angel singingтАж :crybaby:

So anyway, here's some of the very limited number of Thai songs I know. There's a few other songs I can't post below as when I don't know the Romanised song titles (Thai name in Roman alphabet), I can't search them on YouTube. Kind of hoping someone will post them. :happy7:

WANT TO KNOW YOUR FEELINGS BUT DON'T WANT TO ASK BECAUSE I MIGHT BE "HURT"

I think this song has been posted here or somewhere beforeтАж Because I recognised the melody when my BF started singing it to me earlier on! He says it's a "gay" song but I'm not sure why and got distracted before I could ask.

It's got such a beautiful melody. The meaning is quite sweet... it's when you can't tell how someone feels about you and you want to ask but can't because you're scared your own feelings might be hurt if theirs aren't as strong for you. It's such a nice song I almost get tears in my eyes when my BF sings the first few bars...

    GUN LAE GUN

Pretty well known... Most of you have probably heard this before. It's the theme song to the movie, "The Love of Siam".

My BF knows all the words and has sung it to me a few times. :notworthy:

It's a really upbeat song... So sweet hearing it played live by a band recently.

    KOP KHUN GUN LAE GUN

My BF doesn't really know this one... same band as the one singing "Gun Lae Gun" above and I think it was written by the same person too. I'm not sure of the meaning. The melody, especially at the start, is so sweet!

    ROO SUEK BARNG MHAI

Also from "The Love Of Siam" soundtrack. It was written by the lead actor, Pchy. Got a really nice tune.

    PIENG TER

My BF sings this one well... Not sure of the meaning and haven't asked him yet. It's also from the soundtrack to "The Love of Siam", hence why I recognised it.

So yeah... if you have a Thai song you really like, go look it up on YouTube and post it here! It might be one of the songs I like but can't find! :happy7:

I TOTALLY agree Beechy, Thai love songs get me every time, I think it's a mixture of Thai being a lovely tonal language plus then the added "softness" and gentleness of the music and words which in comparison to western music make it just sound as you so rightly said almost heavenly and so lovely.

My only problem is just like yourself all it takes is some hard assed Thai guy who seconds before I was probably on my guard with to turn round and sing to me and my heart starts to melt and I really have to remind myself it's just the music having that effect and and not him ! lol - I guess that's why there's so many Karaoke bars filled with starry eye farang all over Thailand ! lol

If you haven't already got it I suggest you download August Band's ( which is Pechy's band) "Radiodrome" album - it's all the same type of music and more and is great, I have that and some other nice Thai music on my Ipod and I find it so soothing when I'm walking about in a busy town or City here in the UK perhaps stressed out, with my day going to shit and all around me are doing my head in just to take a moment somewhere quiet and put it on and it calms and relaxes me and reminds me that not everywhere in the world is so mental perhaps - and it does that each and every time :-)

Oh and good luck with your new found love......and just in time for Valentines day too eh !! :-) I'm only "slightly" jealous - honest ! :-) lol

Re: What's your favourite Thai song?

This may be a bit dated, but when I first started going to Pattaya in the early 90's there was a song that was a favorite at Memory Bar a GoGp in North Pattaya. They would play this song 3 or 4 times each night and it became my favorite all time song from Thailand and then when I went to an elephant show at one of the cultural parks the elephants came out start there program with this same song.. I am not sure if i can make it paste in from You Tube .... The name of the song is "Broken Hearted Woman by Jessica Jay... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOCKimkTEA8" (Just click on the Blue and it will take you to the You Tube Link)

The first song (calorie blah blah) was one half of the song performed by Bell on Thailand got talent. She is the katoey that made the YouTube rounds awhile back. She switched to a more masculine voice halfway through her routine. I am sure this is why it is so familiar. It is also one of my favorites.

I have a couple favorites to add, but I am having trouble figuring out how to embed using my iPad. :dontknow:

Hopefully I remember to come back and post a couple once I get back to my computer...

Thanks to everyone for posting their picks.

Yep! That's what does it... it's the soft tones of the language. I think Thai is to Asians what French is to Westerners... such a seductive language. Even a simple conversation about whether to walk or drive to dinner gets quite seductive LOL.

Aha! You're right! That's where I first heard it... Thanks.

The bit where the audience goes wild is a classic Thai moment...

The second song she transitions to is "Unlovable" by Mild. Nice song but lyrics are a bit depressing!

oldie en goldy: BIRD aka as Tongchai McIntyre (half Canuck-to please our regular living up there in KhKhaen) and always rumoured to be like PLU. Major hit was BOOMERANG!. This was about the first I myself learnt fully. Velvet sweet voice.
But I personally am more into Thai pop and rock- my fave firmly remain Asanee Wasantr.
PS-most of that sweet Thai songs you mention are Thai fill-ins of Taiwan or Chinese songs. As always-there is not that much that a Thai seems able to think of by him/herself. Holds even for loads of Look Thoong from isan/Laos.
BTW; LAOS- rock and wild sings are forbidden by the govmt there-its not ""Laos''-they have really sweet songs there and that facebook/youtube etc craze has hardly arrived either. Even been serenaded by your Thai lover after a wild game?
