The market is called Chatuchak (Mor Chit is the bus station, as well as a Skytrain station name) and it is most of the vendors have closed up shop until ... ??? Not much point in going there.
The flood waters have reached Mor Chit.
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

When I went to the weekend market a week ago it was not open to general sales. The vendors were loading things onto trucks and taking their stuff out of the market area. We did a small walk around the area and only one shop seem to be open or preparing to move. It was a book/magazine shop.
    These are the good'ol days

I must have been at some other Chatuchak market yesterday in an alternative universe. I was at Chatuchak on 6 Nov 2011 at 1600 and it was 90% closed. Some shops on the outer ring were the only ones open and the inner areas with the exception of one gate was closed and barricaded. The only reason it was open is for the shop owners to get their merchandise out. KamphaengPhet road was dry from MRT to the MoChit bus station but the road almost deserted.

So was Tinakorn Rujirong misinformed, dumb, misquoted or is there some hidden agenda? Bangkok Post does not verify statements from anyone with a title.

    Chatuchak market open as usual

    Online news:

The Chatuchak weekend market is still open as usual although floodwater is swelling through the drains at a section next to the army's Land Transport Department on Phahon Yothin road, market's deputy director Tinakorn Rujirong announced on Sunday.

Pumps are being used to drain water out and keep the market dry.

Vehicles can enter the market through Gate No 1.

About 50 per cent of the shops have been opened.

The water level outside the market this morning was 50-60 centimetres high.

not far=some 4-5 kms-can make a enormous world of difference in BKK-today-you should know that Krobbie. Along Ngam Wong Wan rd -Don Muang/Laksi is another 4-5 kms north.
During the last 2 weeks I have read various short notes in Thai press that inmates of x-y-z etc prison have been moved to other same-same places run by the govmt in other dry chiangwats. Same-same for some homes for the elderly.
