Do you like Hallowe'en themed parties - shows at gay venues

Do you like Hallowe'en themed parties and shows at gay venues in Thailand?

I donтАЩt like Hallowe'en. The fact that gay bars, discos and saunas have Halloween-themed events is a reason for me to stay away from them on that day (from a theoretical point of view as IтАЩm not in Thailand at the moment, but it applies to Europe as well). This is partially because I donтАЩt like make-up at all (face-whitening make-up on gogo boys is a turn off, Halloween make-up even worse). Furthermore I grew up without Hallowe'en (therefore, Hallowe'en is as strange to me as Ramadan), but I dislike Easter and Christmas decoration as well, but Christmas-themed events in Thailand are bearable (one of the advantages of holiday in Thailand over Christmas and New YearтАЩs Eve is to escape these events in Europe), but all this blood, scar, witch, spiderweb, bat, pumpkin stuff is appalling to me.

In order not to spoil it for anyone who likes Hallowe'en, I waited till itтАЩs over with this post.

Fortunately, itтАЩs only once per year and only a few days. What are your thoughts?

    I voted other.

I am not pushed either way about Hallowe'en themes in bars (or 'Halloween' as they spell it nowadays..Damn Youth!)

But I am surprised that you dislike it so, Christianpf. Do other themes like Valentines Day or St. Patrick's day (both quite commonly celebrated in farang bars in Thailand, from what I can see) annoy you too?

And if it is just Halloween (sic) is it something to do with that it is about ghosts and the supernatural that annoys you about it, or something else?

The previous post got me thinking about the spelling of Halloween (or Hallowe'en as I am inclined to spell it, which i suspect tags me as an old-fashioned type)

I thought that Hallowe'en was the old British way of spelling it (now dying out fast there, though) and Halloween the American spelling.

So I looked on the google "Ngram Viewer"

    http://books.google.com/ngrams

It was made for these types of queries. Sure enough, it told me that Hallowe'en was the dominant spelling in both countries at the beginning of the last century, but that Halloween overtook Hallowe'en in the 1940's in the US and around 1990 in Britain.

Bookmark the google Ngram Viewer if you are a saddo like me, for when you just have to check these things!

I am sure that Christian's problem is not only that the boys wear white face so he can not determine their facial beauty but that he doesn't enjoy anything that would be something else rather than a handsome young boy in a pair of his specially bought underwear!

Heaven forbid a party where he could try and relax and enjoy himself and maybe he might splurge and buy a second bottle of water! Nah! :occasion9:

Christian, try relaxing and just go with the flow one time rather than that one thread where you booked in every expense from a freakin mango that you bought to crapping in a pay for toilet! You might find that your trip to thailand might be a little more enjoyable.
And of course he doesn't like Christmas, he would have to buy a few decorations maybe or someone special a little gift to show he cares about them.

What a relief to see I'm not the only one who dislikes Halloween themed parties and shows at gay venues (in fact anywhere).

I don't remember St. Patrick's day. Valentine's Day, Christmas, Easter are ok, but I could do without.

It's these costumes and decorations and make-up that I dislike.

And thanks for the link to the Ngram viewer, I didn't know such thing exists.

The continuous interest in my expenses recording promted me to search for those from last year's Christmas. Here it is:

    24.12.2010
    -80 breakfast
    -100 laundry
    -600 room
    -10 baht-bus to Jomtien
-20 cake (Scotty, you have sussed me out!)
    -150 pedicure (at gay beach)
    -30 coconut
    -30 chair at gay beach
    -5 toilet

    -100 tip (name)
    -110 drink Krazy Dragon
-120 drink -30 tip Mic My Boy (30 Baht tip! I probably was that generous because it was Christmas!)
    -60 food
    -1000 tip (name)
(Btw, I recorded all my expenses for that holiday, which was veritable hibernation in Thailand lasting 11 weeks. In and idle moment I will share with you.)

ChristianPFC... You're a classic! You would make a great sitcom character. :rolling:

What are your thoughts on Birthdays and New Years Eve?

Re: Do you like Hallowe'en themed parties - shows at gay ven

My birthday celebrations are in small circle, some years I skip them at all (i.e. only birthday emails from my parents and close relatives and close friends). But now I have to be careful, my birthday is on facebook, gayromeo and in my registration on this forum, so people can find out if they want. I already though of setting my birthday two month later a months before and back to the correct date two weeks after it occured.

I dislike the firecracking at New Year's Eve. In Germany, streets are filled for weeks with the waste. I think it's nonsense to allow everyone to fire firework, even if it's only on one night of the year. Firework should be restricted to special occasions, where it is carried out by specialists.

Back to Halloween: I recently read the the population of the USA spent 7 Billion Dollar on Halloween this year. Most of the stuff bought is rubbish (in my opinion) and becomes waste after Halloween. 7 Billion Dollar, let me write this in full: 7,000,000,000 USD!

Fortunately, both events (Christmas and New Year's Eve) are on a much smaller scale in Thailand than in Europe, so I can escape both of them (and the cold winter as well).
Birthdates are not accessible by mods, admins, or other members on this site. It is for age verification only.
