The same here. I contribute to the Thai economy, support a few good businesses with my custom and tip good service. However, the charity and social support can be left for the Thais to do.
The regime doesn't seem very good at that, but it's an issue for Thais to fix, not me. They seem quite good at channeling money towards all sorts of crazy schemes, including keeping certain individuals in extreme luxury, shoddy and pointless construction schemes, subsidizing diesel and even funding the detention of people who fail COVID tests.

Incidentally, quite a high proportion of my holiday expenditure ends up in the hands of Cambodian and Lao citizens. So that's going to the even more needy.

I'm not quite sure what gave anyone the impression that the massage boys want anyone to feel sorry for them. They make themselves available if you want their services, just like any other working boy, and if you do fine, and if you don't that's OK too.

Being confronted with "boys for sale" was a totally new experience for me when I first came to Thailand, and I still don't feel totally comfortable in certain settings. Returning a smile and being polite always seems to work out just fine. If you're the type that prefers turning your nose up to them, or making rude gestures, that's OK too. They'll smile anyway...even though they've already pegged you as an undesirable person (bad karma). That's just human nature. Up2U!

Inside another coffee shop. The Backstreet House. Complete with a small batch roaster. A candidate for best coffee in Pattaya. 20220205_150641_copy_800x735.jpg
