Well I don't know about staking but yes, the last time I passed by there was no island there. There were some strange articles. Quite large cylindrical shaped objects made of semi shaved wood. I wondered what they were for, now I know. And all done in a few days. Remarkable.
Of course there might be some structure under the water that I couldn't see before. The Chinese have a habit of draining lakes and then filling them in again. In another part of the lake there is a long crescent shaped wall that goes right out from the bank so who knows what that was at one time.

the chinese can do amazing but disorientating things...like tearing down a couple of buildings in a high density part of shanghai and building a park complete with mature 5 meter high tress within a monthg...one wanders down a road and suddenly ones fav noodle shop(hole in the wall) is gone, replaced by a park....like an alternate universe
