It's been a few years since I've stayed there, but I find the exact opposite to be true. I find that booking directly with the staff is much better as it allows me to select where I stay, what floor and where (down at the end of the hall so I don't hear doors slamming and tricks frolicking in the elevators). Additionally, if you check in late at the Malaysia there is a possibility that they won't hold your room for you.
