I see the US has nominated its former Ambassador to North Korea as ambassador to Thailand - he should feel right at home.

Who knew the US had an ambassador to North Korea? That must be a sought-after assignment.
Hitchhiking's more of a challenge on the road less travelled.
Well he wasn't an ambassador - just a policy wonk based in Washington. He's a career foreign service staffer and his Thailand appointment is only for 6 months for some reason.
The United States had an ambassador in North Korea??
The "ambassador" was actually an envoy.
Oops.
Kommie strikes again! Lol
Where's the announcement that it's only a 6-month appointment fountainhall? The piece I read said that the Ambassadorship had been vacant for six months, not that the appointment was for six months.
As posted in the Protests thread. Ambassadors usually don't serve for fixed lengths of time.

Interesting that this would be his first time as an ambassador. I would think with the current issues facing USA-Thailand relations, they would appoint someone with some experience in that type of position.
I don't know much about his background, but have not seen anything that points to any special knowledge or experience regarding Thailand specifically.
Hmmmm...Anyone seen him wandering around Boyztown? LOL
Why wasn't this your first post in answer to mine, instead of your second?
Why so slow off the mark? Just thought of it did you?
Nice try.
Back to the drawing board you go! Lol
No, the US generally goes through Sweden for any diplomatic talks with North Korea.Originally Posted by a447
