    COVID-19 Vaccines and international travel

Following is a link to a lengthy Australian article that might disabuse those who believe that “have vaccine, will travel” will be the theme of 2021.

Meh... by the time I get jabbed twice with the Pfizer vaccine, there should be solid amount of data regarding how transmissable the vaccinated individuals are. Hopefully it's not much, and in that case, good to go!

I'm not entirely sure what these latest developments mean in practical terms.

What are you talking about? It's probably another 8 months before I get jabbed twice. I'm pretty close to the bottom of the list to get the shot.

More than enough time to gather enough data to please governments. Well, assuming being vaccinated makes you non-transmissable, but time will tell.

The more useful “development” to keep in mind will be what’s announced about general attendance at the Tokyo Olympics due to start in late July 2021. I can’t see the Japanese government wanting to take too many risks. Booking for travel would likely have to be made by April or May.

The Thai government I’m sure has the latest scare - Thai hookers sneaking illegally back into Thailand from the “hotel” in Burma which “services” Burmese military officers - at the forefront of their mind when assessing when to re-open the land borders to all those Lao, Burmese and Khmer money boys who seem to make up the bulk of the workers in the Bangkok and Pattaya bars. That’s especially true of Khmer who only get 14 days at a time if they’re to remain “legal” and who could potentially carry the coronavirus back and forth or become infected during a visa run “home”.

As I understand it they’re relaxing the requirement to apply for a visa (as our intrepid adventurers goji and gerefan2 have done) but are keeping everything else, especially the 14-day quarantine at the traveler’s expense.
