There's more to Thailand, Pattaya and Boyztown than the availability of partners. For those of us who have lived much of our lives without expressing our sexuality (and that's a large number of my generation), it has always been a place where we can feel at home, among friends, safe and respected.
This was first exemplified to me in the mid-nineties when I met an old guy, well into his seventies, whose wife had just died and who had journeyed to Pattaya shortly afterwards. Whenever I saw him (we were both staying in Boyztown but at different hotels) he was with his young man, hand-in-hand. I thought it charming. Like many of us, he had found some sort of ease late in his life.
I suspect that younger gays may find this hard to understand.
