Assumption College seeks teachers in BKK-start 60,000 baht +

    Hello Sawatdee friends...

In reading www.tefl.com . today - I noted a newly posted announcement from Assumption College in Bangkok seeking "experienced" teachers ...and their benefits apear to be very attractive...starting pay at 60,000 baht monthly plus a 5,000 baht monthly housing allowance and more...to see:

    http://www.tefl.com/ .

    http://www.tefl.com/jobs/job.html?jo_id=21228 .

"We are seeking applications from QUALIFIED Early Childhood and Primary/Elementary teachers for EP teaching positions commencing in March 2006.

EP teachers teach English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education/Health and/or Computers to their own class of Thai students. Basically, their responsibilities are similar to a primary school teacher in western countries.

All teachers teach for approximately 18 hours per week. Class sizes are 20 students for Grade 1 and 25 students for older Grades. There are 100 students in each grade.

'EP' refers to the Assumption College тАШEnglish ProgramтАЩ. It is the schoolтАЩs immersion program which is offered by the school to meet a growing need in the school community for students to increase their ability to understand and use English naturally.

The English Program basically operates as its own school within a very big Thai school. The Program has a very friendly, small community feel.

In the 2006 Academic Year there will be 500 students learning in the Primary School E.P. from Grades 1-5. There will be 25 foreign teachers.

If you have the stated qualifications and are interested in a position with our school please send us your CV, along with a cover letter and recent photograph.

We will send an extensive Information Package to suitable applicants and plan to begin telephone interviews at the beginning of January.

All appointments are for a period of one year.

    Qualifications
All English Program teachers must be qualified with a Bachelor Degree major in Primary or Early Childhood Education OR a post graduate teaching certificate (Dip. Ed or PGCE equivalent). It is preferable if they have EFL or ESL training or experience but all teachers will be supported with these skills.

We are currently seeking AUSTRALIAN, BRITISH, CANADIAN, AMERICAN and NEW ZEALAND nationals to apply for teaching positions.

    Compensation
    - Salary is 60,000 baht/month (Taxed at approximately 9%))
    - Living Allowance is 5,000 baht/month
    - Local Medical Insurance is provided (including repatriation)
    - Approx. eleven weeks paid holiday/year
    - Contract completion bonus.
    - (yearly increment of 5,000 baht/month for continuing teachers)

NOTE - While this salary may be less than teachers are paid in western countries ALL current and former English Program staff have said that they have been able to live a far better lifestyle in Bangkok than on a teacherтАЩs salary in their own country. This is because of the very low tax rate (approximately 9%) and because of the very low cost of living compared to western countries. If they choose, English Program teachers are able to live a very affluent lifestyle and still save money each month. Needless to say that the salary certainly allows for teachers to be able to comfortably afford travel within Thailand and elsewhere in South-East Asia."

I hope this may assist those of you who may be in search of good employment in Thailand.

I don't see why this pay is more attractive. It seems just about the same as all the other English teaching jobs in Bangkok.

    Information

I'd have thought if anyone seriously wanted a teaching job in Thailand they'd already be an assiduous reader of the sits. vacant at ajarn.com

Having said that, 60K plus 5K housing allowance is rather more (about 50% more) than what most jobs pay

    Uhm...

Actually I was making an observation that there was a correlation between the arrest of Prowler, who was an English teacher at "a prestigious Bangkok school" and the "newly posted announcement from Assumption College in Bangkok" .

But yours is just as acceptable a conspiracy theory as mine is :P

(Mind you, this all is simply in jest, and not meant to reflect the opinion of marc11864 or Sawatdee-Gay-Thailand)

I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories. I thought it was another example of nominative determinism - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nominative_Determinism
