Noise Reduction Head Phones

Some time ago there was a thread about getting a noise reduction Headphone. I did some research and ended up with Plane Quiet NC7. It does take the roar of the jet motor down to a not so loud sound. It worked well as a light headphone, but does not measure up to the Bose noise reduction variety headphones. The cost is main reason for the NC7, but if you really want to be serious, I suggest you spring for the extra pennies and get the Bose. You will arrive in Bangkok in better shape. The downside of the Bose, they are not small and do take up space on your carry-on. Happy travel to all.

I have a $40 pair of no-name folding noise cancelling headphones that work pretty well. They're similar to these:

I can't imagine that a $300 pair could be $260 better. None of the models completely remove noise. Not only do mine reduce the engines to just a distant roar, but they also mute those screaming little monsters that parents selfishly bring onto planes.

Make sure that the ear muffs are big enough to completely enclose your ears. That enhances their effectiveness, and also limits bent ears which over 12 hours can be painful. The ones above are probably a bit lacking in padding on top. Mine are better but can still get a bit uncomfortable on a long flight.

I'm ecstatic with my Bose and they don't take up too much space in the carry-on as the earpieces swivell and they came with a snazzy zip case. Anyway they didn't cost me $300 as they were my Christmas present from the CP. I think he paid over ┬г200 though.

I use them for the gym but don't wear them on London Transport though as I wouldn't feel safe.
