I too like the beach and always thought Chiangmai would be perfect if it was on the ocean; regardless, it's my favorite haunt.

And, you know they have a decent-sized reservoir with a decent beach and bottom about 4-5 kilometers northwest of
Chiangmai University. A great place to go spend a half a day or the entire day. It's somewhat busy - mostly thai - so get there somewhat early.

After my last trip in June I've finally had a similar feeling to aussieal's re-Pattaya.

It's just not doing it for me anymore.
Its just too tawdry all around.

Next trip I'm going to Phuket and hoping to be impressed. I havent quite found my niche in Thailand. Bangkok comes closest so far. Chiang Mai a close second.
