that's no way to speak about the likes of John Botting, Kqill or Oogleman !

Frankly a long weekend is enough for me in Chang Mai. What is there to do during the day ?
    Lunchtime,

    A bit of a difference, I don't think I know it all, I do!!!

Are there shows like in BKK or Payatta???
Anything like Wild West Boys or ???

Boys with numbers on their shorts ???

Massage places that are For Men Only by Men Only........

Are Off Fees and tips similar to Payatta???

Would appreciate any info as I would like to make it there for at least a few days this winter.
Oh, one more, is the weather OK in November/December or considerably cooler than in Payatta.
Any of the friendly hotels have swimming pools???
Is the best way to fly direct to Chaing Mia from BKK?

    Thanks for any info.....
I don't thing you will miss a lot.
It is all there, on a significantly smaller scale. But I always found the people from Lanna country less pushy and more relaxed.

The avarage standard is pretty good.

Regarding accomodation is any standard, from dorm to 5 star plus, availible.

I never needed to "off" someone but canot remember one single night I've stayed alone.

Temperatures can drop low up there, including frost on mountains during early morning hours.

Pending where you are flying in from, there are direct international flights to Chiang Mai; otherweise Chiang Mai is well connected with BKK airports.

I'm one of the 'Anywhere-But-Pattaya' crowd mostly, though do get there for 2 to 4 days at a stretch to visit friends . . . and find that plenty.

Thank you Smiles, not too many on this board tend to think above their navel. The countryside is great up north and the people not quite so "cash driven!" It was interesting to see comments from board members who have never set foot in the north making disparaging remarks. As they say small mind reap small rewards!

In the 1000/1400 THB range, all hotels are friendly and most have a swimming pool. I suggest you stay in Porn Ping Tower near Night Bazaar (very close to the beer bars and to the tourist zone) or Novotel in the North part of town (convenient to the Chang Phuak bars).

Nok Air has a promotion still valid in November and (perhaps) December at 990 THB all included, departing from Don Muang ; 4 flights a day. You may reserve on their website (including choosing your seat) and you can now pay with any international credit card.
Have a look at Nok Air

    Chiang Mai hotels

I wouldn't book in advance - unless you’re going to stay during X-mas and New Years day. Any local tour operator can book you in somewhere nice at a fair price. Or look yourself and make a good deal before. The oversupply on beds at any price range is significant. ..

    Some fine hotels, surely gay-friendly:

Tea Vana Hotel near TAT office is a very nice hotel. Friendly, comfortable. Outside the centre ring but walking distance to night bazaar and the peak, which will be probably one of your favorite spots soon .. (next to Friendship bar)
Manathai Village Hotel is near the Thapae Gate, very central.
Pornping Tower is close to the centre, good value for money but fairly well used. Bubbles disco is hot - and cruisy.
Lotus Pang Suankaew, also close to the centre and Central shopping. Incredible value for money. Close to action including the very good House of Male but takes a about 10 min or sometimes more to night bazaar or peak. There are various direct bus lines who are running in circles, taking you everywhere for 10 TBT.

    I'd definitely second that.
Start in the 'hong nam', and work your way out (in a manner of speaking). :blackeye:

    Cheers ...
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

    No sea at Chiang Mai

I have been to Chiang Mai once, and enjoyed my time there. But I come back to Pattaya and Patong Beach year after year because they have beaches, and the sea, as well as the boys. I know that the sea is none too clean at Pattaya, but if you keep the water out of your eyes and mouth then you should be OK.
