Brit ex-pats in Thailand - solace Chelsea Flower Show

    The Fortnum & Mason Garden

Pour yourself a nice stiff Pimms and browse through the photos of the competiton gardens from The Times. I suggest that you refresh your drink after viewing each garden.

Yes you are right the gardens are not what they used to be but what is? Hic!

I would have thought that the Greek Poem would have worn out jinks over enthusiastic knife - wishful thinking indeed.

    Chelsea, bored with borders?

This year I just couldn't be bothered.. As far as the season goes I am quite happy to wait for the equestrian games coming to Hong-Kong next year. British gardens always look so feeble as seen from Asia, mini theme parks. Stick in a terracotta and its Mediterranean, and will decking never die? Or curvy hardscaping set in gravel cease to dominate?
I remember visiting Majorelle's garden in Morocco, now owned by Yves St Laurent and then later seeing someone's gold medal half baked take of it at Chelsea, sad, very sad. It must be difficult nonetheless gardening in all that damp slime, for the brief three weeks that make their summer.

Believe me British expats you are missing nothing, in fact look around you instead. I love the random nature of street gardens in Thailand, they seem to have a life all their own.
