Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri SirindhornтАЩs Thai classical Ensemble concert.

Others Thai events will take place in France. While His Majesty the King of Thailand celebrates the 60th anniversary of his accession to the throne this year, in the autumn France and Thailand are jointly organising a festival entitled Tout ├а fait Thai that will take place in France. This event echoes "La F├кte" (going on at this very moment!), an annual event in Thailand for French culture lovers.

The intention? To discover ancient artistic concepts тАУ such as the Khon theatre тАУ while leaving plenty of space for contemporary Thai creation, in the field of living arts and shows, classical and current music, contemporary art, cinema, photography and even gastronomy.

CULTURESFRANCE is in charge of organising Tout ├а fait Thai, under the aegis of the two countriesтАЩ governments. Two commissioners are responsible for festival co-ordination: Mr. Beurdeley and Mrs Phiranai.

Jean-Michel Beurdeley, commissioner:

"It is no coincidence that the opening of the Thai festival is scheduled to take place in Versailles next autumn. Thailand will remember that in September 1686 the Siamese Ambassadors attended an opera by Lully entitled Roland, in the presence of the Sun King Louis XIV.

In September 2006, 320 years later, the Royal Siamese ballets, the Khon, will be occupying the Versailles opera stage. The Khon will put on episodes of the Ramakien, the Thai version of the very old Indian epic, the Ramayana; these ballets, with their unusual rhythm, convey an impression of grace and ease: each posture, each tilt of the head and the bust, each movement of the fingers suggests an act, an emotion. The Khon is not a simple entertainment but a complete show, grouping several "Tout ├а fait Thai" artistic expressions. The French public will be able to appreciate this at the National Opera in Brest and during the Ile-de-France Festival at Massy Opera.

In Paris, in the Place Saint-Sulpice, a Thai village, with numerous craft products on display, will be built very near the residence of the Siamese Ambassadors in the 17th century (Rue de Tournon).

The "Hun Lakorn Lek" Puppet Theatre will be the guest theatre at the Charleville-M├йzi├иres World Festival, after spending several days performing at the Maison des Cultures du Monde (Worldwide Culture Centre).

"Tout ├а fait Thai" also encompasses a very strong love of music; music accompanies not only the entertainments, but also all the circumstances of everyday life, at the palace, in the city and in the rural communities. We will present modern Thai music at the "Point ├йph├йm├иre" on 26th October and traditional music at the Th├й├вtre des Abbesses then at the Com├йdie in Rheims on 21st and 23rd October.

For many years now, the fine arts college in Bangkok has endeavoured to bring together and preserve all the old traditional elements, melodies, songs and instruments. This rescue process owes a great deal to H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who devotes much of her life to it. Her Royal Highness will give a concert of classical music at the Mus├йe Guimet in September.

Contemporary arts will not be forgotten at the Maison Europ├йenne de la Photographie (European Photography Centre) and "Nuit Blanche" will also have a Thai theme in October in Paris.

The public will be able to go to the Thai film festival at the Cin├йmath├иque in Paris, in Nantes, Amiens and Lyons, and these screenings will clearly demonstrate the emergence of a new inspiration in the "7th art" in Thailand.

At the Hotel Meurice for the Thai gastronomy festival, you will receive a two-handed greeting, palms pressed together and the fingers curved like a lotus flower bud, the head slightly tilted. This gesture is unique in Asia, and was the proper procedure a very long time ago in the pure Buddhist tradition to which the Thai people remain deeply loyal.

We hope that "Tout ├а fait Thai" will persuade the French to visit Thailand, as it is not only through its creations and its entertainments that the Thai people expresses its innate love of beauty and harmony but with every moment of daily life."
