    I've booked the flight!

    Greetings.

I have jumped in and booked my flight - Eva Air LHR-BKK return (£603) - for late November and aim to stay for 30 days in Pattaya (return 27th December),

In the past, I have stayed at the Venue in JC, but as I am staying rather longer this time I would welcome a few pointers in respect of the following queries/ requests for advice and, in so doing, apologise if this is advice that has been liberally dispensed in the past. Please PM if more convenient.

    1. I am seeking good value accommodation in the Jomtien or south Pattaya areas with good communal facilities (pool/cafe/wi-fi/laundry etc) as I intend to spend my afternoons on some writing projects. This could be either a hotel or rented apartment and would have to be 'open' to 'joiners' and very gay-friendly. I'm looking for more, on this forthcoming visit, than just a place to rest my head in the evening. Mosaik, I liked in the past for the purpose of sleeping and eh, short time adventures, but it would not suit me this time.

    2. I will be spending most of my evening leisure time in JC and while the Venue is a most convenient and much-loved hotel ( I certainly enjoyed their shows - particularly if Ness was performing) I'm now looking for more space with facilities and a good pool with plenty of sun where I can sit in the afternoons. Any recommendations please?

    3. I must visit Sunee Plaza Bar (green chairs/ white chairs bar) to see Madam Pai. I do hope she's still there, chewing away on her plate of chicken! We go back 29 years!!

    4. I want to visit Cambodia briefly, while resident in Thailand. Any recommendations in terms of flights to and from Bangkok? I'll spend a couple of nights in the capital and a couple of nights in Siem Reap. I've yet to visit Cambodia.

    5. Is the Nam Sing Chinese restaurant still in operation, just before you reach the Royal Garden Plaza on second road on the left coming from the direction of BT?

    6. I have limited myself to a visit that remains within the 30-day visa requirement, although I am aware that you can extend it, but my health insurance (Admiral one-year multi-visit insurance) limits the number of days I can stay overseas on any one visit. Any idea how a longer visit can be facilitated without invalidating the policy?

Many thanks in anticipation. I'm looking forward already to my first drink (or six) in the @HOME Bar when I arrive in November!! Zak be warned.

I've stayed at Venue and it was ok and cheap but I think Zing Resort gives you bigger rooms, is gay friendly, and a pool to sit by.

Green Bar is still open however you will likely be the only customer.

    Nam Sing still open.

    Re: I've booked the flight!

I suspect that PG will enjoy his stay in JC just as we have. I don't need to stress , yet again, that Agate is for me - and even more so for P- the best hotel at the price we've used in Thailand.

I'm told that it will resume its breakfast service by the time we return in November so that's my recommendation. And the prices - don't make the mistake of using Agoda et al- are amazing. Book directly with the hotel via email. We're paying 1200pn.

As far as the JC scene is concerned, it is vibrant...but I've just said that on another thread

The JC also has one of best and well-priced Thai restaurants around in Dick's.

I have also booked with EVA for end of September, hopefully they wont cancel any more flights, but looking now they seem to running the route as scheduled!

Suggest you consider Baan Souy http://www.baansouy.com fantastic pool and, very gay focused and whilst not in the hart of Jomtien a good location between South Pattaya and Jomtien, and easy to get to either quickly!

Jai and I booked a hotel in Jomtien Complex for a short stay just recently just for a change in routine and we had a great time.

We stayed at Agate, which you probably know is right in the middle of Jomtien Complex, and both gave it a "thumbs up".

As Oliver has already mentioned, they are not serving breakfasts now until more customers return, but, with that one exception, we were very happy with Agate and will look no further the next time we return to the scene.

The rooms at Agate are very clean and well-appointed...friendly staff...comfy bed...very quiet at night...gay friendly...nice pool with a large stone wall/waterfall with tropical landscaping...private parking...and of course all within stumbling distance to all the boy bars, gay beach, restaurants, etc. I parked my pickup truck when we first checked-in and never needed to use it after that. For this reason I give Agate an A+.

Note: For breakfast we went to either "Delice" (a French restaurant a stones throw from Agate), or a cozy Scandinavian restaurant which sits right behind Agate on Threppraya Rd. which serves a very good breakfast. We enjoyed dinners at Yupins and Dicks Cafe' (our long-time favorites) which are both located in the Complex.

If you want to be close to the "boy action" and still enjoy "quiet times" Agate is worth considering.

Good luck, and most importantly have a great time on your holiday. It will be hard not to.

We stay at Jomtien Condotel when we are in Pattaya. It's now a bit of a drudge to walk from the condotel to JC but not unmanageable. I am SO happy to hear that O Delice has survived, thanks to Dodger for mentioning it. It is terrific and to my mind is the best boulangerie and patisserie this side of Paris! We'll be in Jomtien in mid-August after a 3-year respite. Hope to see you all then!

Correction, Dodger; not one but two pools, the second of which is of salt water and is preferred by both P and me.

As for the quietness, the JC was busy again last night and the show at The Venue in full swing. not a sound to be heard by us early sleepe
