    Need help identifying a Charity

A friend recently died and left money in his Will to go to a Charity for Street Children in Thailand. Unfortunately he gave no more details and didn’t make it clear whether he meant a specific Charity or a general donation to any such organisation. I know he did visit somewhere to see a Charity at work but quite a long time ago. He was a regular visitor to Thailand up until about 10 years ago but travelled around a lot but I think it was probably in Pattaya. Now his partner, who’s also his executer, wants to visit and personally deliver a cheque. He expected me to know where or what the Charity is but I’ve no idea. I know it’s all a bit vague but has anybody any ideas?

I would suggest you contact The Students' Education Trust (SET) at SET_THAI@hotmail.com. This is a well-run charity of more than twenty years' standing which provides poor and disadvantaged Thais with the means to further their education. More information at www.thaistudentcharity.org.

Re: Need help identifying a Charity

Some years ago, the then owner of this site ran a photo competition for which there were various cash prizes. Most winners donated their prizes to the Pattaya Street Kids Association. Since I wanted to make sure my donation had in fact been received by the charity, I checked and this was confirmed. Unfortunately I know very little about this charity but am told it does good work. It only has a Facebook page and no website. But you can see it here - https://www.facebook.com/pattaya.streetkids

This site is now 11 years old but it outlines some of the charities for children. I expect many will still be in existence - https://bk.asia-city.com/city-living...e/get-involved

I have made provision in my will for a charity named the Child's Dream Foundation. This is based in Chiang Mai and covers education needs mostly for hill tribe kids.It covers Thailand, Laos and Cambodia and so will not be what you are looking for. - https://childsdream.org. Donations can be made specifically for one country.

I suggest that once you have located a charity that meets your friend's requirement, you look very carefully into its activities and particularly into its management and constitution. There are bound to be fly by night charities whose principals take the money and run. Ideally the Board of the charity should have some important community figures and a history of proven charitable giving, with particular emphasis on references from those who have received funds.

Also note that handing over a cheque in a non-Thai currency in Thailand may present slight problems as many banks will not accept these unless the charity has an overseas currency account. Even so, such cheques often have to be sent back to the country and bank of issue to prove that they are legitimate - and this takes time. I reckon it will be better to get some form of bank draft or cashier's order in Thai Baht.

There are many organizations that help children in Pattaya.

Here are just a few that I am aware of.

    https://www.fr-ray.org/ Father Ray Foundation

    http://www.baanjingjai.com/ Bann Jing Jai Foundation

https://www.camillianrayong.org/ Camillian Social Center Rayong (CSC Rayong)

Thanks to all for the information, much appreciated. I'll pass it all on to my friend's executer as the decision is his.

Yes, the immediate charity that comes to mind is the Father Ray Foundation (Pattaya Orphanage).
    They welcome visitors any time.
