Still some great deals out there.

I was just looking at some deals for Thailand after the summer. I am thinking of early September. EVA Air offers direct flights from Amsterdam, departing around 10 pm and flights back to Amsterdam from around 12 pm.

Has anyone ever stayed at Tropicana Pool Villa?

I like the idea of a villa with a private pool. I was thinking of 2 days in Bangkok, one week in Pattaya and the last week at this villa in Jomtien. I would probably need a car for this last week.

Does anyone have some tips when it comes to such accommodations? Maybe somewhere less off the beaten track.

I intend to go to Pattaya on late June.
I am also thinking of renting a car to make some day trips outside the city. But I think Avis and National, the offices in North Pattaya I used to go are still closed (or maybe definitely closed). Does anyone know a reliable company to rent a fully insured car in Pattaya?

Be VERY careful with Eva Air. They have made many promises of flights from London to Bangkok over the last few years and then have not flown them. Many friends have had difficulties getting refunds.

I’m not sure if the same applies to Amsterdam but I suggest you check past flights to see if hey actually operate.

I used Maks Car Rental which is based about 2 km south of Jomtien in Jomtien Second Road. They are run by farangs. No problems and everything went smoothly.

It is a little way outside Jomtien but I went there by motor bike taxi and got a friend to pick me up afterwards.

I assume they still operate but you will soon find out.

Maks are still open. Expat Car Rent on Thrapaya Road across from Foodmart at Jomtien are excellent and a very convenient location.

I have also used the car rental shop next to the Foodmart car park and had no problems with them. I had a small dent in the side of the car when we returned from Chiang Mai and he asked me how much i thought the repair would cost. I said 1000 baht and he was happy with that and took it from my deposit.

You had a dent, but did you cause it?

I had two flights cancelled. The refund was in my bank account within a week. Unlike Thai Air who emailed me to say that there was no immediate prospect of one due to the company's on-going problems. I' m expecting a refund from the bank card I used to pay for it.

I've rebooked an Eva flight from London for July. My flight had to be changed when alterations were subsequently made to the timetable but I suspect that this one will go ahead. There was, apparently, a management meeting in Tapei about three weeks ago to make changes in the light of the improvement in the Covid situation.

With strict border controls still in place in Taiwan, I would not be optimistic about EVA's flight situation in the summer. The government recently relaxed entry restrictions to permit foreign relatives of Taiwan nationals and Alien Resident Certificate holders. Most of those wishing to travel for business reasons are also permitted. But there is still a ban on tourism and no indication as to when this might be lifted or eased.

I suppose those in the above categories warrant EVA undertaking some flights, but unlikely to be more than a few each month. My friends in Taipei reckon a general opening up will not occur until later in the year. My hope is that we will be able to travel in time for the 2022 Gay Pride Parade on the last Saturday in October.

Going throught the records, I see that EVA has flown BR70 LHR-TPE three times a week since mid-February with no cancellations.

On the other hand during that same period no BR67/68 flights, by way of Bangkok, have taken place.
