Most boys think of themselves as bar boys, working boys, or some such similar polite phraseology. I don’t ever recall seeing a profile calling themselves an escort.

They do not regard themselves as “money boys “, even though they will “perform” for a tip. I agree that you sometimes see profiles which says “MB”, but it Is quite rare.

Being called a “money boy” to his face is considered a serious insult. Ask me how I know!

Perhaps this is what he thought you were saying?

I doubt a Thai boy would understand your joke, let alone the form you produced!

Sorry gerefan2, I thought I had made it clear that my whole post was a work of fiction with the addition of the emoji, the updated form date of 1 April 2018 and the whole tone of my post. Apologies for any confusion.

Ha I don't know which was funnier there, JB's original post or Gerefan2 thinking it was a serious interaction :-) Ha the very idea of Jelly standing at the door of his hotel seeing out his boy de jour while asking for a VAT invoice for services rendered as the boy left - classic :-)

I once encountered a young man working at Boys Bangkok in its final incarnation who described himself as a “sex worker”. His previous employer had been some UN do-gooder agency whose major influence on the young man’s life was the information that there’s more money in sex work than office work. He’s not the only pleasant encounter a UN agency has provided although the first one was not a paid meeting. I met him in that haunt of daytime pick ups in the 80s and early 90s, Dairy Queen in the Robinsons building on the corner of Silom & Rama 4 roads

I find “So many money boys on here” the most effective throwaway comment. The most common response is “do you mind?”

If it's just a random guy you're chatting with, I don't see the harm in asking. It's not like they're going to be offended by it. If anything, most would probably take is as a compliment and think it's funny, because that means you think they're cute enough to actually pay money for.

I always just asked. Not if they were a money boy or not, but I asked, "What are you looking for? Friend? Boyfriend? Fun? Fun with money? Or what?".

    Always worked fine.

I never had this problem. Some write (in English or Thai) in their profile that they are money boys. Others bring it up during chat*. If there is any doubt, I ask "what are you looking for?". If a boy appears on my door without bringing up the issue of money, I assume he comes for fun. That works even in Pattaya.

*The earlier the better. In Myanmar and Cambodia very straightforward, whereas in Thailand you can waste some time chatting until the boy gets to the point. In 2013 I hooked up with a boy in DJ station, went to his room (much closer than my room at that time) and when we were both undressed to our underwear, he told me he is a moneyboy. He was not that good looking that I would pay, so I got dressed, said goodbye, and left.
