    Could I? Should I? Would I?

A friend who lives in South Hampton contacted me to let me know he will be arriving on the 20th of this month. I asked if he understood the requirements needed to enter Thailand he said he thinks so. Before the plague he was a regular visitor to Pattaya and kept an inexpensive apartment here which at some point he gave up as he was unable to return.
He is a party type likes late nights and is often pissed and is definitely not into the gay apps. His expectations I fear will not be met as at the moment and without certainty nightlife is non existent and nothing definite has been officially stated as to a real change in December as in the ability for bars etc. to open as before. I know him well and I’ve tried to explain the current reality here but to no avail, somehow in spite of everything I won’t be surprised if he says why didn’t you tell me?

I’ve sent him some snippets and we have spoken on Facebook messenger. I think he just wants to believe what he wants.

    MFAS,

Your friend from South Hampton has to know what the scene is like now. It would be impossible not to know.

Maybe he'll "reshape" his holiday, like we've been talking about and end up having a great time.

You can always find a place to get a drink...there's always a boy to be had...and the suns always shining. That's one hell of a good base to work from, and it definitely beats the alternatives..

To be fair, that thread started very promising but somehow changed into a thread about transportation.

Your friend is not any better than a Khmer acquaintance who crossed from Cambodia to Thailand illegally in December 2020 and then whined about lack of customers in Pattaya. I had told him several times to stay put in Cambodia, and he could have asked his Cambodian friends who are still in Pattaya about the situation. But at least that absolved me from sending him any more money, because the predicament he was now in (illegally in Pattaya with little chance of work as a moneyboy) was self-inflicted and against my advice and common sense. I don't know how, but he made it through that time and back to Cambodia.

He certainly would not be alone in that. While I have my "I Don't Get It" list, some people have their own "I Don't Want to Get It" list.
