If the current saga is still dragging on in the new year, how many bars will still be around be it sunnie or jomtiem or boys town ?

Consider Sunee and Boystown a write off even before Covid as for Jomtien Complex only time will tell and there the only survivors will be those owners with deep pockets.

Next to the businesses that went straight bankrupt, I think there are many that were hanging on for dear life before COVID. For them, this was the push they needed to close and not reopen. This goes for franchises such as 7-11 too. I know some business owners that were losing money and will not invest more.

To be fair, how many bars were really making a profit? I think that making rent is hard enough, let alone paying key money.

    That's true.
It has always been the case that there have been too many bars for the numbers of us who wish to use them. Even in the Good Old Days (I know that I'm a bore about the late 90s) there were bars in Pattaya that were always empty and so didn't survive. And I'm sure everyone has witnessed a doorman clapping loudly as he takes you into a bar to rouse the dancers from their slumbers in an empty bar.
I recall that the last time I had a drink in the Jomtien Complex there were two or three bars that were deserted while others flourished. Perhaps a smaller but more vibrant scene, distressing though it would be for the the failed businesses and their workers, would be preferable in the long-term.

    Fairly common.
As a further refinement, there was one upstairs bar on the same street as Kawaii, Dreamboys etc that had a bell switch at the bottom of the stairs. The doorman would press on that and all the gogo boys would be up on the stage by the time the customer entered.

Agreed, and I wish that would be in Sunee. Not (only) for sentimental reasons but it would increase the chances that GoGo bars like Nice boys and Winner had a fighting chance.

Must have been between Dreamboys and Soho.

Dynamite and Classic are the two upstairs bars I recall. The former was short-lived despite the mamasan claiming that it had "special " shows, while the latter drove me out by the astonishing volume of its sound system.
Does anyone remember the Victoria Hotel next door? Rooms by the hour. Scuzzy.

Of course, we should remember that while some bars were empty, BBB and Cockpit opposite were packed. I recall not being able to find a seat in the former....and it's a large premises.
