Ninety percent of the hooligan protesters are Chinese Thais as they make up a huge majority of the students and teaching staff of elite universities in Thailand. Now that they make the highest number of Thai billionaires the influence they have on the economy and politics is immense. [Deleted text] Can you imagine how much the Chinese blood has been infused into the Thai identity? They have already caused so much troubles during the recent decades from partisan communist ideology, compounded by wanton bribery and thuggery in the business underworld. So the Johnny come lately Chinese immigrants are trying to take Thailand for themselves. Clearly the current pandemic is putting on hold for the Chinese 'invasion' of gentle Siam.

as an aside, for those who like things/talk Thai and want to know a bit of the culture:
the word ''tjay/chai''=heart'' is used in general for any type of emotion. Its not just kreng jay or jay yen, there are 100s of such combinations. There is/was? a nice book about this, ''Heart Talk'' that may even still be available in specialised bookshops in TH explaining it all.

"Gentle Siam"? The Red Shirts, largely rural Thais from the north, were enough of a threat to be massacred by the military. And, despite my post concerning P's "jai yen", the fact is - despite what one poster claimed- that he is Red Shirt, as are his friends whom I know. His ability to maintain dignity and balance in personal issues does not mean that the political iniquities (and inequities) of successive military regimes and their hi-so backers are always tolerated with the same restraint.

By the way, referring to the courageous young people who confronted an inept and undemocratic as "hooligans" as another poster has, may go down well on Fox News but seems a little over the top when their opposition was expressed peacefully and with such humour.

Hi dinagay. I would like to respond to your post but you have made remarks that could be construed as lese majeste and put yourself and the board owner in trouble with Thai law. I hope you would re-consider them.

I once used this phrase when I was being hit by a Thai youth. I even added a Jai Dee but it didn't work. Maybe a mai pen rai would have helped.

Maybe a swift kick in his balls would have worked better. The Chicago version of jai yen.

Rather than 'Shut up!' I think 'ขอดูดควยได้ไหม' might have given him pause for thought.
